The Chilcot Report

I understand the Chilcot Report into the invasion of Iraq is due to be released next week. I'm hopeful rather than confident that we'll learn anything significant and that those responsible for incompetence and deceit will be prosecuted. Do you share my scepticism?

Regarding the belated Chilcot report I feel certain it will be another total whitewash as usual and nobody will be prosecuted and if they were and found guilty they wouldn't spend a single day in prison .

I think you're right. It has already been suggested in the press that nobody will be accused of breaking the law. This is why it is vital the report is covered extensively by the media. If this turns out to be a whitewash it is important the public are made aware of this rather than it being swept under the carpet and hidden behind other news.

Hopefully there will be a lull in Brexit and party leadership news next week as the findings of this inquiry deserve the highest media profile and scrutiny.

Yes I share you scepticism. Those that are responsible will never be prosecuted. Tony Blair is so arrogant he will not even apologise. As the wife of an ex serviceman I am disgusted this has taken so long and the huge cost of the report. So many service people lost their lives because of our arrogant government. So many more had their lives shattered along with their bodies because Tony Blair wanted to get his name in the history books as a great leader.
I worked for a long time with some of the families trying to put their lives back together when their husbands, wives, sons, daughters, came back home on stretchers or in body bags. I still have nightmares about these times, I hope Tony Blair and the rest do also .

Yes, I do share your scepticism and I was married to a serving officer in the UK military for 25 years. I know first hand how dedicated our Armed Services are to carrying out their jobs as expertly and efficiently as they can, and I'm also only too aware of the sacrifices that they and their families make for this to happen. Sadly, when the **** hits the fan 'the powers that be' generally don't or won't take any blame or responsibility, so why would this long awaited Report result in anything different. Bear in mind that the bereaved families were even originally told that if they wanted to have a copy of this long awaited report they would have to each pay well over £700 for a copy!

Thank you for reminding of this topic. I feel that following the fall-out from Brexit this report may well take a back seat as far as the population as a whole is concerned. Whether or not there are prosecutions remains to be seen.
