The Taylor report

The much awaited Taylor report on the gig ecomomy wants to end the payment of cash to builders window cleaners etc. This misses the point even if this money is not declared it still finds its way into the general economy and is taxed via VAT, unlike Amazon, Starbucks and the like who shelter vast profits offshore for the benefit of their business and shareholders. Wake up people!

I think that you also have to factor in the paperwork involved in dealing with credit cards, debit cards and cheques etc. Some people who are excellent at working with their hands are not necessarily that great with dealing with the mounds of paperwork and record keeping required to run a business these days (my husband runs his own small business so I know). A lot of what is required is beyond a lot of people - pensions management, VAT returns, live Payroll systems etc. If working with cash works better for them and enables then to earn a living and not be a burden on the state - then good luck to them.

Hiya VernonS I agree they should be chasing the sharks and not the little fish, some people need those cash in hand jobs just to help them survive and as you say they do pay indirect taxes when the money is spent.
