Are you travelling alone to America, sightseeing, or to visit family?

I never bother with travel insurance, it's a racket, and when you come to claim for a hang gliding mishap they tell you, 'no, sorry that's not included.'
I was bitten by a cat in Turkey and had to have anti-rabies treatment, my insurers said, 'you shouldn't have stroked the cat, so we can't pay you.'
I had a moped accident in Cyprus requiring hospital treatment, guess what my insurers said?
So now I don't bother with it.

I don't know what your occupation was before you retired, I was a Civil Servant and have a yearly worldwide policy for £162 I have medical problems but you only have to be fit to travel for this insurance no medical problems declared. I made inquired for a friend and was told anyone can join, this means you would have to join the CSPA (they have a web site) this is only £18 50 per year and that would entitle you to buy this insurance. I can recommend it as I was due to go on a cruise in April but my traveling companion suffered a stroke and was unable to go, they paid us both with no hassle.
