Trip around the world

Anyone done this before or would like to make a travel dream become reality?

I am a 52 year old professional male who lives in Cheshire UK. I have the opportunity of taking anything up to 12 months leave from my job to fulfill my dream of travelling around the world. As a seasoned traveller who usually takes around 10 overseas trips a year, I am realistically planning to do a 3 month trip around the world. Has anyone any suggestions or which places are a "must do" ? Is there anyone who would love to experience this once in a lifetime opportunity and would like to join me to make the trip more cost effective for everyone ? It doesn't matter if male or female as long as have an ambition to experience the different cultures the world has to offer. Interested ? Please feel free to give me a call for an informal chat to discuss on 07866 999604.

Hi, hope you ha e a fantastic trip. We did a Round the world trip in 2012, as a treat for my husband, wanted to do it for years. We flew by air New Zealand as found theirs was best price, and you can use other airlines within the group. LA is a good stop over, good hotel is the Queen Mary, a little way out but so worth it. Cook Islands definitely worth a trip and Aitutaki is the most beautiful place we have been to so far! Hawaii also good if you can get it into your itinerary. Sydney of course, Brisbane, Auckland - suggest motor home hire and drive down to South Island. If you like Islands you could go to Solomon Islands - very uncommercial and interesting, how about Vanuatu, Tahiti if you can get it into the itinerary. Singapore and Malaysia well worth a trip. It all depends on which airline you are using and how many miles you want to do as different routes amount to different mileage and you can't go back on yourself. There are also circle fares for the South Pacific which are reasonable all depending on where you want to go. Good luck, have a great time.

How exciting! What a great plan. I and my family are planning a similar expedition but are not seasoned travellers at all. We're starting in Eastern Europe at the end of the month and then planning to go to South East Asia in September/October. We're from Yorkshire and also feel it's time to expand our horizons and experience different cultures. We'd welcome any advice from experienced travellers and would be happy to share experiences and recommendations (when we have some).

Hi, interesting post. I've never used a forum in my life, never been on Silversurfers site before and yours was the first post I saw.....got me thinking! i'm 57, female, also live in Cheshire and about to finish a temporary work contract at the end of this month i was made redundant last summer and have covered a maternity leave for the past 10 months which has been utterly soul destroying so I've been toying with the idea of travelling for a few months just to restore my soul! I've got a 2 week trip planned in September and have plans to put my house on the market before i go so this may affect my plans a little. When do plan to go? Have you got a budget in mind?

You must include New Zealand in your world trip. Australia is also a great place to visit. Go for it and all the best. I'm a kiwi so I may be a bit biased but NZ is a great country - and there's room to breathe, we're not over-crowded.

NZ is a fantastic place Dyzee-You are very lucky to come from there. Our family went there 15 years ago and we hired a family camper and went from Auckland right down to South Island and the Alps. Stunning place and everyone was just so friendly. You are right room to breathe.

I agree with Dyzee, I lived in NZ back in the 60's, I will never forget it, and if my finances improve I will visit again before I die,
