TV advertising during the day

Repeated advertising for funeral provision is a bit depressing. But apart from that wouldn't it be better just to save for it? The rates for older people are prohibitive it seems. As for leaving something to our loved ones, why not give it to them now.

I couldn't agree more, I have bought a plot to share with any of the family who wish to join me and I don't mind if I am buried or cremated in a cardboard box.I also find the advertising for charity donations most annoying, yes I feel sorry for the donkey, dog or whatever but I choose which charity I want to support and the upsetting scenes do just that...upset.

The most annoying ads are the one's from various loan companies. On some channels the easy loan ad is shown every break. Daytime advertising is relatively inexpensive which is one of the reasons we seem to be swamped with the same ads. The daytime tv watcher demographic must be for older people wanting to plan a funeral or take out a loan to donate to one of the many charities.

The adverts that annoy me are the law firms trying to collect on accidents or medical negligence. So unnecessary. The funeral ones are a bit annoying too, frightening us older folk into buying into their plans.

How long do you know you are going to live for therefore how do you know how much money you will need for yourself in the future? Provision should be made in your will of how your funeral will be paid for from your estate, otherwise as you say just save but who knows what the cost will be when the time comes?

I couldn't agree more. All the advertising for Over 50s funeral plans is indeed depressing. Apart from the fact that with some plans you wont get back what you put in I would image the costs of funerals will increase over the next 20-30 years do these plans probably wouldn't cover the costs anyway. I am happy to go with the cheapest options and no flowers I would prefer my children to have the money rather than spending it on an expensive casket

I agree with you on both counts orchardlane, I would go further and say that funerals are becoming too expensive. Funerals are for the living not for the dead. No need for expensive flowers or caskets.
