Volunteers wanted for silver surfers community hubs Nationwide

We are a homeless Social Enterprise based in Manchester. We are soon launching a Nationwide Community Hub based within lovely pubs. This initiative is currently kicking off in a lovely pub called the Cheshire Cheese, Shevington, Crewe. Here’s how it works... The pub designates a small area within the pub. This space is available to all our volunteers Mon-Fri. It’s a sort of mini ‘social club area’. We are trying to tackle the subject of social isolation and loneliness. These social clubs will be operated by our volunteers within these pubs. We have done lots of research and we have had an enormous response from other pubs that want to participate. One of the initiatives is a silver surfers morning or afternoon computer course, teaching people basic computer skills so they can eventually learn how to use a PC, Skype and generally allow them to gain a hobby. We are looking for silver surfers volunteers all over the UK to help us achieve this goal. Isolation and loneliness doesn’t just affect older people which is why we have set up this programme, a lot of our younger generation are suffering aswell.

If anyone wants to get involved please email me at info at HelpHomelessHeroes.com We don’t just do pc courses, we have loads of other classes as well. We are looking for volunteers and also people who want to join our committee to make a difference locally, in your community. Please get in touch or visit the HHH website

I think this is a great idea, and I wondered if there was anything like it set up near me? Farnborough Hants. I'm not ready to volunteer just yet but possibly in the future. I realise this post is old, but if you could leave me a message I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance. Jan
