What do you think about cutting funding of the Police force?

This government seems to be placing cuts right through society and for good reasons to balance the budget but I do feel they are doing to much too fast. The police are now saying they may have to put advertising on the sides of Police Cars for easyJet to get some funding in! This may be a bit tongue in cheek but it seems we are foolish if we cut the Police- They do a fantastic job and if anything we should be giving them more funding especially with a growing population.  What does everyone else think?

One of the primary concerns of any society is it's ability to protect it's citizens. This is generally the responsibility of the local police force/agency, which should be kept trained and equipped to the latest techniques and technology/equipment. This force should be kept financially independent of the citizens and business it protects so as not to give the impression of any favoritism. Any solicitation of funds should be at the local/state government level so as to protect the reputation of the force/agency.

The councils should delve into their reserves to fund any extra costs. Please see my comments under local council funding. It is iniquitous not to use these reserves, which, after all are funded by us the tax payers!

When it takes five officers to attend a bill dispute it makes you wonder why on a real need for officers you can't get one so is the problem supervision and organisation of staff or too many no well paid top brass

Hello Wilf,

first of all this government and future governments should put Ist, priority on our police, and armed forces, they are the first to look after us,

what with recent events, I think its ludicrous that at the moment we need all our services, the government has decided to cut the man power, (great isn't it this is just what the terrorist want to know ,)

it seems the government want to cut everything except their own pensions, and pay salaries, as after all you see some of them asleep in the houses of parliament when they are supposed to represent us, and they actually get paid for it,.

in other words we are expendable, they aren't, this is a poor reflection of what this government think of us, which is really bad considering that they were re -elected to look after us, in the first place, and so far theyre not making a very good job of it, are they,.

The last service we need to be cutting on is the Police. We do not see enough of them anyway and we know all the services are hard pushed. The debate needs to be what kind of a society do we want to live in? Personally I think as you get older and especially if you travel round other countries you realise how good the services are in the UK. The Police and NHS most reflect this. So my view is stop cutting back on Police and NHS etc
