What is....? What if....? Why....?

How do you answer an eight year old boy who asks "what is a nuclear bomb?" "will they send one to us?" "will we all die?". I'm so sad, no, heartbroken that a young child even has this all in his mind, that he might be going to bed trying to make sense of this evil world we live in. How would you reply if you'd have been in my shoes? I felt sick inside, but answered as best I could telling him that a lot of countries have the bomb but nobody would dare be the first to set it off. It looks like a feeble answer seeing it in print

Unfortunately this has been a threat to the world since August 1945, with the dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. With the advancement in technology since, these
have become even more destructful and/ or horrifying. Unfortunately ,until man learns acceptance
of others and how to live in peace, this threat grows on. Once governments discussed and planned "if" , now it's "when". No matter how we sugar coat it to our young, the threat remains there.

I know you're right Senile (although you're obviously not lol!) that the threat remains, but we didn't have all this worry to contend with did we when we were young. Our childhood generally was playing out with good friends, who were never bullies and caring about our community, friends and family. We just didn't have all the worries on our shoulders that our young have now and I'm so sad for them
