Where do you find people to chat with, keep you going, make your day a little better etc.?

A lot of people don't have anyone to talk with at home. How do you make contact with the outside world. I make a point of getting out each day.

I walk my wee dog twice a day and always manage to chat with other dog walkers, even if it is just a few words. Sometimes I drive to one of the many parks around our village, or alternatively round the estate. Every walk is different as it depends on whom I meet and merely being out in the fresh air makes the whole experience a very satisfying one.

I have a huge problem with all these community groups and meetings in the village hall.......they are all old people!!
Hell, I am 62 but feel 32. I don't want to sit there discussing my arthritis or knee replacement over a weak cuppa.
Is there anybody out there who feels the same?

Hello wpshark
What a shame your experience of community groups has not been positive. ( I am assuming you have tried some out). I am 64 and feel much younger. I am young in attitude and in good health so whilst I am respectful of our elderly population I want to have a lot of laughs. I have met a few "real life and soul of the party types" who are much older that I am. Perhaps you are just unfortunate where you live. I am not in a village. I meet a mix of age groups from teen to late years through voluntary work.
Who knows what the future holds, there are many people who rely on the local halls to have social contact. In that case I would hope to be the person able to make the tea!

Hi I'm Mary and new to the site. I retired 3 years ago and find volunteering is great. I am busy every day during the week and a couple of evenings. I have made many friends through volunteering and attending other community groups. If you live in an area where community group activities are available I would recommend trying them out. You just might be surprised I know I was.

Think it's ok when out and about but I do get lonely when the front door shuts for the day! Worst day for me is Sunday's as everyone busy with their family.

Hi Mandy
I am Mary and I have just joined the site and browsing. I understand what you are saying, it is hard. Hope you find a way to fill a couple of hours on a Sunday. Have you tried a befriending service. Homes for the elderly are often looking for someone who has a couple of hours to visit someone in care. Might be an option for you.
