Where have all my friends gone?

New at this, but here goes - In my 70s worked all over the country but now retirement seems a lonely place

I can relate to your situation James. Recently bereaved I have had a lot to do the last few weeks...and still not finished! Walking the dog is my only leisure activity at present - when I occasionally bump into another villager and have a brief chat. I don't like to leave my dog for too long either...she s my best friend...but once we are into Autumn and Winter I need some way of socialising sometimes. I am considering join U3A in September...they have a meeting early in the month so shall go along and see if anyone speaks to me and what sort of vibes I get on the friendly front! Certainly plenty of choices there - Clubs, Reading, Theatre, Walking, Eating/Drinking...etc...Once a month would do me 🙂

Hi Caro where do you live?. Let me know how you get on with U3A, I was thinking of joining also as they have a lot of activities, get me outside - even if it's only for a walk.

I agree that retirement is a lonely place and difficult to make friends when you have reached a certain age. I spend lots of time on cruise ships as I like being around people but returning from my trips I find that I am lonely at home.

Like you, I am retired and live in Panama. I would like to speak with you in English as I have to deal with Spanish here and enjoy having friends who speak English. This is my first try at communicating on this forum so I look forward to hearing from you.

hello james,

I just registered two days ago. it is not easy to find your way around here. I am 69 years old and retired. I do live in Germany. I enjoy my new life now. but I thought it would be great to have some chats in English, just to keep up with it. otherwise I will forget so many things then. perhaps you would like to chat with me ?? would be glad to hear/read from you then....

best wishes, Hannelore

Ben might be an answer to your dilemma James. There are organisations popping up all over the place like Love My Doggie where you can walk someone's dog if they can't.
If you like to be active, you could find a local health walk - just a bunch of people who like to walk together. Wherever you live, town or village, there will be some groups you could join. I'd go along to one or two even if they don't immediately strike you as interesting!
Happy hunting.
