Windows 10

I use a PC which was on Windows 7 and a laptop which is still on Windows 8. I have a Windows phone and I use an I Pad when I am away from home. I have just downloaded Windows 10 onto the PC. I am aware that Microsoft are testing W10 by letting the public download it. I understand the upgrades will be coming very regularly. It took hours for it to download, fortunately I clicked the download button just before I went to the cinema. I was just finishing when I got back. Its crashed my sound system, and it now does not work. I understand this is a known problem and a fix is coming. Alternatively I can re down load a new driver. Probably not as easy as it sounds. My photos are not lost but now they are 3 clicks away. I think this is an operator problem and I probably need to spend a minute sorting this out. My PC is much much faster. The Windows 7 system regularly froze my PC. That problems gone away. Anyone else using W10. ??

I have an open question to all. I'm a newbie here. I would like to download windows drivers from a free source. Where do you usually try if you need a windows driver? For me, I would like to try here https://windowsmaximizer.com/driver/updates/ I see more than 200000+ drivers are listed here. What do you think?

Hi Josiah
Your best option is to use Iobit Driver Booster https://www.iobit.com/en/driver-booster.php# it's a simple one-click operation to find and update all of your drivers including missing ones.

When you install it make sure you read every page otherwise you will find it installs other software that it has (which to be fair are all pretty good).
Make sure you untick any "offers".

Forgot to add that it is free! There is a Premium version but you honestly don't need it.

A headsup for anybody using Windows 10, there is about to be another major update to the OS this month. It is in effect a whole new operating system because rather than issue service packs, that is now how Microsoft have decided to "progress". It will take some people hours for the update to download and install and then some time after it has allegedly finished, spend some more time jiggling itself behind the scenes, so will appear a little slow for a while whist it is whirring in the background.

Just saying

If you switch off all the sharing Win10 does via settings and tighten up on the communications it does with Microsoft it's not too bad. It's quicker cos it uses Flat Windows instead of the 3D windows but any software designed for 7 and up should work on it ok. The downside is the "Apps" such as Edge and Mail have reduced functionality so I enabled IE11 and installed MS Essentials on it to get a reasonable Mail program. Things usually Lock up or do not work properly in 10 because there was probably an issue with your previous version of windows which you were not aware off. I have found this to be the case in the past especially if there was also a known issue in the previous windows version that the user was hoping to get rid of by upgrading.

For those using Windows 10 who would like to see a Windows 7 Startup menu that they are familiar with there is a program called Stardock Start 10 that makes Windows 10 look like windows 7. You can get it from here>>>>> https://www.stardock.com/products/start10/ for three us dollars.

Windows 10 start menu is simple to use unlike Windows 8 which was a pain and I used Stardock Start 8 to sort that out.
After downloading Windows 10 make sure your anti-virus is switched off before you install it.
I have had no problems with 10 on my desktop or laptop. I like it.

Manufacturers are slow to adapt to W10 and so drivers are few and far between for older hardware. Try using a W8 driver, it has worked for many users and us professionals regularly use it as a workaround.

Yes I am using 10, It did take several hours to download. Luckily I have no limit on downloads. It seems to have slowed down my computer. Used 8 before.

Yes window 10 is a big improvement, compared with windows 7 and windows 8.1.
My advice when downloading windows 10 is to allow yourself plenty of time. The program itself will take a least two hours but then it will download all your other devices which in my case took another two hours. The new Microsoft edge browser is fast and very clear to read.
The disappointing side to Microsoft is than they stopped the money program and I am sure a lot of you used this software. The new edition of Web User gives you guidance to run Microsoft money in windows 10,it looks a bit complicated to switch. I use a software called Moneyline and this program is good but you have to pay. I am very impressed with the new windows 10 and use BT plus security with McAfee and a Anti-Malware software.

I downloaded mine today and it took 3 hours. I usually have problems when I download anything but so far so good. Just a case of getting used to it. I have not lost any of my stuff. every thing is working as before. Fingers crossed. some sort of manual would be handy to look into why I would change my email to Microsoft. All goes above my head.
