Would you like to see a debate happen about the monarchy?

As we approach the end of the Queen's reign the country needs an honest, grown-up debate about the monarchy. We need to stop and ask ourselves: Can't we just choose our next head of state? With polls showing young people wanting an elected head of state, the succession of King Charles will be a major turning point in the monarchy's history and in the growth of Britain's republican movement. There is going to be Billboards about this up and down the country. Interested?

There will be a fundamental change when Queen Elizabeth passes. It is reported that Charles intends to reduce the number of working Royals. What sustains the Monarchy these days? Pomp and tradition? Certainly supported by those whose position in society depends upon it. But as deference withers….there is some work to be done if deference is to be replaced by respect. Entitlement and/or inheritance do not earn respect in my book!

Billboards start going up on Monday!

On Monday July 26 the first 12 billboards will start to go up around the UK!

They won't all go up on the same day, but should all be up by the end of next week.

As they go up we'll add new updates and let you know exactly where they are. Be sure to go and see them, get photos and selfies and share on social media or email them to Republic.

Thank you for your amazing support and for making these billboards a reality!

Republic don't support the US model of president or France it supports something like they have in Ireland. The president Michael D Higgins who is not involved in running the government but there to represent the people and Ireland abroad.

Interesting comments from supporters Billboard Campaign

"Any of our children should be able to aspire to be elected Head of Stat. Such a position should not be owned by a family descended from a bunch of what were essentially medieval gangsters and mafioso."

Oh! 600? That's around o.0o1% of the population. People always seem to want change with no real idea what would be better than what we already have. What would a 'president' do? what powers would they have? Why go to the expense of an election if all we want anyway is a figurehead. At least we know what we are getting with the monarchy. I might agree if there was proposed a complete change in the system of government with 2 elected houses and proportional representation. That's never going to happen as the current system suits the 2 main parties in England so why would they change what, for them, is a perfect way of protecting their little clubs.

Don't know where you get that idea from I am from England lived here all my life born and bread in Cornwall

I once compared the German president same as Irish president who are elected to serve the people to the monarchy where the queen can only ever do what the PM asks not for the interests of the people she has no role to play, she is pointless and powerless so monarchy gives.government hatoo much power with no checks
