Writers support group

I'm a failed aspiring writer. My opening sentence was an intentional contradiction. Despite failure, meaning never been published, I still have hope.

True it's similar to the hope I have of winning the lottery, but a little hope is better than none at all. Anyone else out there tried or trying writing?

I'd like to hear your stories, both the ones you wrote and the ones you've lived. Your efforts at getting published, dealing with rejection letters/emails, and also the success stories. Maybe we can give each other advice, critique each others' work and support each other when writer's block or rejections happen.

If ever there was a good time to write it's during a lockdown. I've been trying to get back into it, though it's not easy because I still work full time, and I have a disproportionate ratio between imagination and perseverance, but it's something I enjoy so I keep at it.

My writing is fiction, I dabble in sci-fi, romance, erotica and adventure stories. I have done short stories in creative fantasy and philosophical quests. So...any writers out there?

Hi Mike,

Not long joined this site, therefore still finding my way around. I've been a prolific scribbler all my life. My Mum used to be amazed at the long, descriptive letters I sent home from summer schools when I was 7 or 8 years old, I loved essay writing and was often told off for writing too much! I have scribbled many short stories, none of which have been published as I have never put them forward; it wasn't the purpose of writing them. They were for children mostly, friends, cousins, neighbours and so on. One story I wrote, for a school friend who had to spend several months in hospital, made her cry and I stopped writing for almost a year because of it. It wasn't until many years later I was told she kept it because she loved it so much. A clear misunderstanding on my part.
I love roaming the countryside and taking photographs of what catches my eye then jotting down notes that later became travelogues I suppose, I sent a few off to the local tourist board and they were kind enough to publish a few. I then sent some off to a local magazine and they too published some of them. That all came to an aburpt halt when domestic chaos meant I couldn't write for a time. I'm an observational writer, it's not what I'd call an income source, nor would I want that (it would put demands on what I write and that wouldn't work for me), I think the secret, if there is one, would be to start small and local 🙂
