Has The Archers had its day?

David Blunkett says he is “losing the will to live” over the new plotlines in The Archers.

He also criticised the frequent changes in stories and characters.

It’s the world’s longest-running soap opera and a national institution. It is the everyday story of country folk that has gripped the nation for more than 50 years, with its gentle exploration of rural life and family drama.

Yet celebrity fans of The Archers on BBC Radio 4 have said they fear for its future and complain it is changing beyond all recognition.
