Are Boxing Week sales worth the effort?

Traditionally, the days after Christmas have been an excellent moment for shoppers to bag some great deals.

But thanks to the rise in online shopping and a more competitive retail environment, sales are now starting much earlier in the season and lasting for several weeks.

In contrast, Boxing Week can feel rather flat – many retailers offer a handful of deals but you have to be truly motivated and savvy to take advantage of the best of the savings.

What do you think? Are Boxing Week sales worth the effort? Will you be making your way to the shops this week?

Boxing week? Black Friday? January Sales before Chirstmas? I worked in retail a few years back and shops still do as they did then, buy in tat and sell at give away prices to lure people to spend money. It's sad that we can't appreciate what we have any more and that clothes as,well as many other items, are so cheap they're disposable (but seldom recyclable putting a strain on the environment).
What happened to buying a decent capsule wardrobe to build on and to last years instead of cheap goods purchased for pennies from sweat shops all ovre the world?

No. So many stores discounting all year, so no need for these sales.

Sales have been on since Black Friday. All the decent quality timeless stuff doesn’t go into sale anyway

Today at Tesco, loads of items half price. Tins of Quality street for £2.50, legs of lamb, really and many other good deals.
Shopping heaven for me.
You just have to keep your eyes open for a bargain.

And no.....I don't work for Tesco's!

We have no money left for Boxing day and anyway the only word I keep seeing everywhere for weeks is "SALE". So why would I want to go to a sale when presumably all the goods I have got for Christmas presents where in a sale anyway?

They used to be about 20 years ago and before that but it seems on the internet there are just permanent sales on which is good for customers especially in the run up to Christmas

So many companies/shops now start their sales before Christmas day. From what I have seen in quite a few shops, it seems to be the remnants from the summer sale or whatever they have lying around in their stock rooms that could not be sold that comes back out again!
I remember 40 years ago my (ex) husband queued all night outside the House of Fraser to purchase a carpet which we had been looking at for weeks. He did get it at an extremely good price and we were delighted with it .

Sales are just not "proper" sales any more sadly.

I am certain there are few genuine sale items and as for clothing convinced that a lot of items are specially made for the sales.
