Do people worry too much about being politically correct?

In society we are now compelled to walk on egg shells because there might be a slight possibility of offending someone.

Are we creating a society where freedom of speech is being stifled to such a degree that we have to think of the consequences of any random comment before we may make it?

We all view the world from slightly different perspectives and make our own choices. As a society we still have freedom of thought. Have we not evolved enough to trust and respect each other even if we differ in opinions?
