Do you call him Santa Claus or Father Christmas?

I am unsure when Father Christmas changed his name, but as a child, I don’t remember him being referred to as Santa Claus.

Is what you prefer to call him a regional thing or a family tradition? One thing everyone agrees is that he travels through the sky on a sledge that is pulled by reindeer, that he comes into houses down the chimney at night and places presents for the children in socks or pillow-cases by their beds, in front of the family Christmas tree, or by the fireplace.

Some people say he lives at the North Pole in a country called Lapland.

Images of Father Christmas or Santa became very popular, with artists drawing him in his red and white costume from 1900 to 1930. So we have all grown up with his image in our minds.

It won’t be long now till he pays his annual visit to those girls and boys who have been good this year, so when you are talking about him to the younger members of your family, what do you call him?
