Chocolate – from the fridge or at room temperature?

It's time to get stuck into a serious debate on one of life’s most pressing issues

It is not refrigerated in-store but many of us keep our supplies of the delicious brown stuff in the fridge once we bring it home. Others don’t see the point of it.

Is there a right and wrong way to store your chocolate at home? Is it personal preference and does everyone who lives in the same house share the same taste?

Should chilled chocolate come to room temperature before you eat it? Does cold chocolate melt and disperse flavour as nicely as room temperature chocolate?  And possibly more importantly, can your teeth cope with chilled chocolate straight from the fridge?

So many un-answered questions ….

What are your views? Or should we have a product-by-product assessment?

201 people have already voted, what's your opinion? I like it room temperature I like it straight from the fridge

Since I can't fit my chocolate fountain in the fridge (don't mess about if you are a real chocolate lover, go big) it has to be room temperature. Otherwise it defeats the object.

If it's cold from the fridge you only need too suckling a couple of squares and it feels like you have eaten a full bar.

Definitely straight from the fridge particularly in this weather. I have also been known to put chocolate digestives in the fridge.

I love chocolate straight from the fridge because it tastes really nice . Being
so cold it melts so slowly and you get the satisfaction bite after bite

I prefer chocolate at room temperature which is just as well as my chocolate doesn't last long enough to make it to the fridge

It depends on how I feel. It does last longer if I store it in the fridge. I sometimes like to dip the chocolate in a hot cup of tea as well, which I enjoy as an indulgence.

That's a new one Rose Grace, i've never heard of anyone dunking chocolate before. I might give it a try - just to see what it's like 🙂

Definitely from the fridge for me, it makes it last longer when you eat it, if you're a sucker (which I am) it takes such a long time to slowly melt and the pleasure is extended. Nom Nom 🙂

Room temperature. Not hardened by the fridge and not soft and runny.

Love my chocolate at room temperature. Even if it's melting a bit in this current warm weather. Hasn't got the same pleasure straight from the fridge. Still can't beat cadburys milk chocolate for me. I took my grandchildren to Cadbury world and the smell is delicious!

Its got to be at room temperature as my teeth are so dodgy that if I try to bit especially thick slabs of chocolate from the fridge I risk breaking off a tooth or a filling so its not worth the effort. the softer the chocolate the more I like it and I also like dark chocolate better and have read that its much better for us.
