Have people forgotten the true meaning of Christmas?

With expensive advent calendars for adults costing hundreds of pounds and a focus on buying bigger gifts and decorating our homes in lavish style, it sometimes appears as though the true meaning of Christmas has been lost.

In our modern times, Christmas has become a hugely important season for retailers and an event we spend months building up to.

But for many of us, it’s also the time of year where we enjoy several days holiday and have the opportunity to see family and friends as they travel home for the first time that year.

Have we forgotten the meaning of Christmas or has the meaning of Christmas simply changed with the times?

Like weddings, Christmas is more expensive and lavish than it was compared with 50 years ago. But at its heart it’s still about being with family and friends, even if the way we do it has changed.

What do you think? Have people forgotten the true meaning of Christmas? Or is it as present as it ever was?
