Do you still consider overseas travel a good use of your money?

What’s more important, to save your money or go on holiday?

This is a question people ask themselves when it comes to precious disposable income. But how important are our overseas experiences to life, health and wellbeing?

Most people would agree that the world is a wonderful place, which could offer us enriching life experiences – but is it possible to put a value on these?

Staycations in Britain have seen an uplift, while overseas travel has proved less of a priority for many. There are a number of possible reasons – the uncertainty around Brexit, the threat of terrorism, and in the case of the USA, possibly even a ‘Trump Effect’.

Is overseas travel still a priority for you or do you consider it more important to save your money? How important is it to experience other places and broaden your horizons? Share your thoughts and feedback below at Speakers Corner.

Worth it to get away from the normal day to day stress of London with everyone seeming to be complaining about everything and it always being someone else’s fault

In this weather it is. I love the mediteranean as the weather puts you back in good spirits. The UK summer is usually a washout and we probably had our summer a few weeks ago for a weekend. Holidays are cheaper in places like Turkey and Greece than Blighty anyway and the food is a whole lot better as well. Roll on June for our summer holiday this year i say.

I love to travel.....see new places.....experience different cultures and climates......the whole travel experience.
Currently I’m hooked on cruises........less stressful than flying and also the dipping in and out of countries visited .
I’ve been lucky and have visited many countries and all the ones on my tick list.
Yet I also love England and enjoy coming home after a trip.

Presumably Westminster you have an airport near you which is run efficiently, unfortunately having been caught up twice recently in disasters at this local one [the local MP had to put pressure on the owners to get their act together ] it now becomes necessary to think twice about a trip abroad.

Going abroad ia all about change, seeing different places and people. I love England and am fortunate enough to own a seaside flat which is so enjoyable.

None of us know how long we have so I say make the most of it, go wherever takes your fancy.

Travellling and experiencing new places, countries, lifestyles, different foods, cultures and peoples.... is like food for the soul.
Saving is commendable but you must give yourself a treat now and then.
Travel broadens the mind "they" say, go and enjoy it while you can.

Each to their own, we live in a great country and have lots to offer the tourist from abroad, but their countrys have lots to offer us too.
I am nigh on 65 yrs of age and there are just as many thing in this country that i have not seen just as there are things abroad that i have not seen.
Viking hit the nail on the head when our weather was mentioned, if we had the same amount of sunshine as Spain, we may as well sit on a beach here and spend our cash amongst the local shops, bars and Theater etc.

North Suffolk, where we have lived for 16 years is beautiful and traditional. People come here for holidays, but mercifully not in the hamlet we live in.

Having travelled Europe and Eastern Europe extensively we prefer to stay at home. Secluded, peaceful and very rural. It suits us well.

Getting away from everything and recharging your body is a must!
On holiday after a day or two you can actually slowdown and have fun. A must for everyone!

Holidays Abroad are really importent for us. We have time now the kids have left and we love going away to hot spots and also places we have never been like Norway last year to see the Northern Lights. We also went to Canada a few years ago on a coach tour and by railway which was just superb.

There will all ways be two sides to this coin.
Having just spent 4 days in the west of this country, it was very sad to watch families have to endure the rain and mist trudging around to find something/somewhere to amuse their children on holiday.
The weather here seems to bring out the sadness in people, so maybe spend more time abroad, if it can be afforded, and be happy!

We absolutely love GB but to live here and have weekends away when we know the weathers good. When the weathers not good its orrible-which to be fair most places are! Thats why we love going away on holiday especially to Spain, Portugal and somtimes the Far East-Thailand

I am a late starter to long haul travel and love it. I have raised my children to be hard working caring adults, have put money away for my grandchildren's future and my mortgage is finished. I have always loved to travel, this country and abroad. I have had many wonderful holidays with my husband and children, but now is my turn to see a bit more of our incredible world. Yes, I am spending my savings but no one knows how long they have left. I have worked since leaving school with just a couple of years not working when my children were very young and child minding my grandchildren most days so I'm going to enjoy myself spending some of my hard earned savings.

To many people travelling all the time standards have dropped especially at Airports.Even if you up grade on some of these low budget airlines you are getting very standard care.Where as a few years ago it was considered Normal

I find that airlines are getting more puntual not less. probably as they and the airports have better technology.

GrEat Britain is a beautiful group of countries and I think most of us travel abroad for a 99% chance of good weather high we can’t get here. Easter just gone was a typical example everywhere was flooded and the earth could not take any more.

There is also the point that holidaying in the UK is much more expensive for the same standard of Hotel and Service which we have become used to by travelling abroad where the Holiday industry’s their main industry.and they don’t object to serving people well and not thinking it is beneath them as many UK citiIzens do.

As we have a motorhome we find travel abroad no more expensive than staying in the UK and many places abroad are cheaper. In addition, we meet so many interesting people.

The only way to tavel these days is by car, boat or train. The advent of very rich parents of all classes who with kids have made air travel impossibly uncomfortable that coupled with the rigmarole you have to go through to get in and out of our country makes foreign travel a no go for most Senior Citizens.

Europe has become so expensive in the past few years with the Euro now about the same value as the pound. Back in the day it was a lot different as I remember getting 14 French Francs to the pound and food being as cheap as chips.

We love going abroad especially to sunny climes like Turkey and Portugal where our money goes further as well. We absolutly love the Uk and places like Devon, The Lake District and Scotland but when we get weather like this past week it does make you want to go to a warmer climate!
