Has technology changed dating for the better?

The internet has completely changed the way we meet and interact with people all over the world.

Through the wonders of technology it’s possible to connect even when we’re far away, and meet people based on our interests, allowing us to go beyond our own community and discover more of the world.

It’s also had a huge impact on modern dating.

Where we once relied on meeting romantic partners through work or at a party, today we go online and meet instead.

There’s obvious benefits to online dating – you can do it in a way that feels safe and comfortable for you, and instead of waiting to stumble across a potential partner, you can actually go out and find them.

Particularly if you’re living in a small community or are dating when you’re older, the internet has helped offer new possibilities to people looking for love.

Thousands of couples now meet online and credit dating websites with offering new possibilities they never had before.

But going online has also brought huge changes with it that have completely altered the nature of dating.

One of the biggest shifts comes with how we can review matches as ‘candidates’ – assessing their likes and interests and making decisions about their suitability.

While this can be very beneficial – you don’t waste your time on someone who ultimately isn’t compatible with you –  it also means we often “judge a book by its cover” in a way we wouldn’t when meeting face-to-face and getting to know them in person.
