Experience a Magnificent Flying Safari

Flying Safaris are the ideal way to experience contrasting parks and reserves in the extremities of a country, without spending too much time travelling. Somak are currently offering a 5 night flying safari, taking in the magnificent Masai Mara, to see the big five, and the great migration, as well as the famous Samburu, the setting for Born Free and the inspiration for the Lion King.

This magnificent flying safari starts in Nairobi, flying north by light aircraft to Samburu; an approximate 1 hour long flight. Once in the stunning Samburu National Reserve you will be transferred to the ideally located Ashnil Samburu Camp, where you will spend 2 nights. During your stay here you will go on numerous game drives, at different times of the day.

The camp is home to just 30 luxury tents, all circular, and carefully spread throughout the lush ground. A lovely pool is a welcome place to cool off. By day there are guided walks, and to relax there is a massage tent and sundowners are offered at night.

Samburu is visited by large herds of elephants, drawn by the promise of water. In the dry season the elephants use their tusks to dig deep into the dry river beds, unearthing precious water. These waterholes then become a focal point for other game. The Samburu region is the best place to find several endemic northern species, including gerenuk, the reticulated giraffe and Grevy’s zebra.

Following your stay in Samburu, you will transfer to catch your flight south to the Masai Mara; an approximate hour and a half flight. On arrival, you will be transferred to the luxury Ashnil Mara Camp, where you will stay for 3 nights. During your stay here you will go on numerous game drives, at different times of the day.

This camp offers discerning travellers 44 superb tents which sit alongside the riverbank and offer luxurious accommodation. This is an unrivalled position for wildlife spotting, and is close to the action during the annual wildebeest migration.

The Masai Mara is home to the ‘big five’ amongst many other species and is one of the most popular safari destinations in Kenya. The Masai Mara also plays host to the incredible spectacle of the annual wildebeest migration. The area has an amazing concentration of wildlife, particularly when the migratory wildebeest and zebras are grazing on the lush plains.

After your Masai Mara stay, you will be transferred onwards to catch your flight back to Nairobi, where you will transfer to your flight back to the UK.

This magnificent Flying Ashnil Safari, including international flights and transfers, is available from Somak for from £2,100pp.
