Hurghada … the Red Sea Riviera

Hurghada’s sophisticated Red Sea Riviera is a holiday paradise of  sunshine, turquoise seas, warm breezes and dramatic desert landscapes.

Hurghada one of the most beautiful resorts on Egypt’s Red Sea Riviera and is home to some of the best diving and snorkelling in the world.

Many of the hotels feature evening entertainment including Egyptian themed shows, sports bar and even casinos. For a taste of local life, experience the exotic sights, sounds and smells of the Egyptian bazaars in Hurghada’s traditional El-Dahar. Be prepared to barter for everything in the shops and bazaars though as it’s a way of life here.

Beaches

Top beaches in the area can be found in the secluded, upmarket resort of Soma Bay where glorious stretches of soft, gently shelving sands offer good swimming.

Water sports

There are plenty of  watersports for the more active, as well as boat trips over to Giftun Island for a chance to laze on unspoilt sandy shores. It’s a wonderful day’s trip and many packages include lunch which is surprisingly good and can be enjoyed with cold beers, wine or soft drinks. Most hotels offer access to the sea for great snorkelling with windsurfing and other water sports often also available.

Many visitors fly to Hurghada for the superb diving that is recognised as some of the best in the world. One of the top spots on the Red Sea for diving and snorkelling is the marine park of Giftun Island. Exquisite corals sway on the sea bed and the warm, clear waters teem with brightly coloured tropical fish. Sightings of sharks, dolphins and turtles are common in the crystal clear seas and on the Abu Nuhas reef there are 5 separate wrecks make eerie exploration.

Just to the north of Hurghada, the purpose-built tourist resort of El Gouna also boasts an 18-hole golf course of championship standard. It has many 4 and 5 star hotels. The Sheraton Miramar resort is very nice with friendly staff, superb food and great facilities. It’s a perfect place to relax, be sporty or take kids with fabulous swimming pools. Next door to it is a Kite Surfing school and as most of it is in a large lagoon lessons can be had in an enjoyable location.

Jeep Safari

If you want to go for days out there are lots of wonderful choices. One unique trip is a Jeep safari where you can head out into the deserts for some really unforgettable and unique sights. Exciting safari trips take visitors out into the rugged wilderness on quad bikes and jeeps, camel treks, sunset trips and even for Bedouin lunches and dinners under the stars.

It’s well worth going on a safari day trip to one of the Bedouin camps. (The main tip is to pay a bit more and just have a jeep for your own party it will save time as some jeeps will go to 2 or 3 hotels collecting other passengers which can take a long time)
