What do single travellers worry about?

When sociable singles holiday company Friendship Travel asked its customers what they found difficult about travelling solo, the top three responses were:

  1. Having to ask for a table for one: eating alone.
  2. Wanting company: someone to see the sights with.
  3. Single room supplements: hidden costs that hike the price.

With 7.7 million people living alone in the UK (according to the Office of National Statistics), it’s no wonder holiday companies have jumped on the ‘single traveller’ bandwagon. There are escorted coach and rail itineraries, action-packed adventure trips and singles holidays that promise ‘fun in the sun’.

Friendship Travel has not jumped on any bandwagon. This specialist has been arranging holidays for single people since 1999 and every detail of their quality holidays reflects their experience.

No Single Supplements

Every guest on a Friendship Travel holiday enjoys a standard double/twin-bedded room of their own, with no single supplement to pay.

Sociable Dining

Never ask for ‘a table for one’ again! Some holidays are all-inclusive, while others include breakfast each day and dinner with wine on several nights a week. Large tables make for convivial meals and shared experiences.

Good Company

Guests are typically in their 50s and 60s, but any group may include younger or older travellers; single, divorced or widowed, men and women. People whose partners can’t or won’t travel abroad are also welcome.

“The conversations in our online Chat Room reflect the inclusive nature of the single traveller community,” says Colum McLornan, the founder of Friendship Travel.

Small Groups

Friendship Travel takes the classic ingredients of a lovely hotel, good food and great company to create sociable holidays for small groups, usually between ten to twenty people. Hotels are typically small and friendly, or adults-only.

Great hosts

Every holiday is Hosted by a team-member who is much more than a holiday Rep. Hosts help guests to ‘break the ice’ at the start of the holiday, and are part tour-guide, part fixer, a wine-waiter and friend when needed.

There’s plenty of choice. UK & European weekends. Summer sun around the Med. Adults-only hotels and luxurious all-inclusives. Christmas & New Year escapes. Small group escorted tours. Caribbean winter sun. Small and friendly Ski weeks.

“If you’re not sure about going solo, see what other people say about their first encounter with Friendship Travel, or pick up the phone and talk to our friendly team,” says Colum McLornan.
