Why late May and June are the perfect times to rediscover some of Britain’s classic seaside resorts

2019 has already seen some superb weather, with an Easter mini-heatwave seeing the hottest Easter Sunday on record.

The end of the month and June are expected to be equally warm and this is a great time to visit some of the country’s best seaside resorts. Having been unloved in the past, many coastal resorts have been rejuvenated, with modern facilities and top-class events now a feature of many seaside towns.

There are so many places to choose from but three of our favourites over the next couple of months are:

Llandudno

The resort here is set amid such beautiful countryside, between the North Wales coast and Snowdonia National Park. In the resort there’s also West Shore Beach and the Great Orme, within walking distance of Llandudno’s promenade.

There’s always plenty to do around Llandudno. On May 25th Abergele Food & Craft Festival takes place and is a scenic coastal drive or bus ride from Llandudno. Or be in Llandudno between May 17th and 19th and travel to nearby Trefriw, for a walking festival offering 22 great walks over 3 days.

Exmouth

Again, this resort benefits from stunning natural surroundings. Right on the edge of East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and close to the historic and beautiful city of Exeter, both of which are easily reached by car or public transport. In Exmouth there’s plenty to see and do, in particular the town’s marina which has plenty of bars and restaurants.

The end of May Bank Holiday sees Exmouth Festival bring the town to life. The community event is free to attend, with 80s pop group T’Pau and Queen Tribute act, Supreme Queen headlining two of the three days.

Torquay

The main town on Tor Bay, there’s so much to discover in Torquay and the surrounding towns of Paignton, Babbacombe and Brixham. This includes Kent’s Cavern Caves and the bay’s many beaches.

There are two great events around Tor Bay in June. Torbay Airshow takes place over the 1st and 2nd of June, with the Red Arrows planned to be in attendance and the Bay providing a perfect natural amphitheatre with great views across the bay. For quality entertainment, head to Occombe Festival over the 14th and 15th June.  The festival features great local bands, a range of South West beers and ciders and gives all its profits to Torbay Coast & Countryside Trust!

Shearings have superb deals leaving over the rest of May and June to these resorts and more across the country. With two hotels in each of the resorts above there’s plenty to choose from to discover the great events that will be happening in each town over the next month or so. Or choose one of their Mystery Breaks, 4, 5 or 8-day getaways to a great British destination which will be confirmed before your departure. So take a look and get a superb value last-minute Shearings holiday today!
