Top Ten Coach Holidays

While we cannot promise Brendan Christmas from Channel4’s Coach Trip, we can promise a great holiday away with a group of likeminded tourists.

Explore Greece in as little as eight days or tour across America for four weeks, these top ten coach tour destinations we have chosen will give you the trip of a life time!

1. Greece
On average, the tours last eight-days, many start on the Marathon coast. You’ll visit Cape Sounion with its cliff-top temple to Poseidon and spectacular views across the sea. On to Athens, where you’ll usually get a half-day guided tour around the best of the city, including the Acropolis.
Some tours will allow you the option of extending your stay in Greece with a week on a nearby island.

2. Canada
You can travel coast to coast (around a three-week trip) or concentrate on one area (trips lasting on average a week to 10 days). In the west, the Rockies are popular, with spectacular lake and mountain scenery all the way down to sophisticated Vancouver, where you can enjoy great shopping and dining.
In the east, French Canada offers plenty of options taking in any combination of Montreal, Quebec and Toronto.

3. United States
You can cross America from New York to Los Angeles in three to four weeks or pick one area or theme, such as national parks.
New England offers more than just fantastic autumn leaf changes with its quaint towns, picturesque coastal resorts and bags of history. Boston, Cape Cod and Kennebunkport are likely stops. Way out west, the Grand Canyon is one of many spectacular geological formations to see on tours that leave from LA.

4. Republic of Ireland
Most trips start in Dublin, then tend to travel south, through the Wicklow Mountains to Avoca, and on to Waterford where the famous crystal is made.
There’s a visit to Blarney where you’ll get a chance to kiss the stone and be blessed with the gift of the gab forever. If it’s castles you’re interested in, there’s a rather good one at Limerick.

5. Italy
If you want to go to the northern lakes but can’t decide which one, go to as many as three on an eight-day trip, stopping at Garda, Maggiore and Como.
If you fancy the green rolling hills and medieval towns of Tuscany and Umbria, that too can be arranged on a tour combining both areas and flying in and out of Venice. Typically, you’ll visit Ravenna, Perugia, Siena, Pisa, Florence and San Gimignano.

6. Norway
Many of Norway’s coach tours are combined with a cruise on the fjords. Tours often start in Bergen, the jumping off point for exploring the beautiful lakes and mountain scenery around Hardanger fjord with its spectacular waterfalls.
There’s more splendid mountain scenery heading further north from Bergen towards the resort of Geiranger in its scenic setting at the head of a fjord.

7. Russia, Eastern Europe
Crossing by ferry to Calais, some routes will take you across northern Germany and Poland, stopping at Warsaw and on to Russia with sightseeing in Moscow and St Petersburg. Some tours return home via Finland and Sweden, crossing back into Germany at Hamburg or Rostock.
These tours are between 10 and 18 days; those of shorter duration usually start with a flight into Frankfurt or Helsinki.

8. Germany
From a five-day visit to the Christmas markets to a coach tour including a visit to the Munich Oktoberfest and taking in the Rhineland, to a week in the Black Forest region, Germany offers plenty of options for coach tours.
If you’re interested in wartime history take a tour of Berlin looking at important sites of the WW2, including sobering visits to Bergen Belsen and Sachsenhausen concentration camps.

9. Tunisia
Coach tours to this area will usually start with a flight to Monastir or Sousse and typically last one or two weeks.
Near the resort town of Sousse is the huge Roman amphitheatre of El Djem. North of Tunis are two poular places: the ancient ruins of Carthage, and the old village of Sidi Bou Said. In the far south, tours will inevitably stop at the underground village of Matmata where Berber tribesmen lived to escape the desert heat.

10. France
One of the best short trips in France is to the gardens and palaces near Paris. A five-day trip will take you to Monet’s gardens at Giverny and the palaces of Versailles and Fontainebleau.
If you’re ambitious you can take a two-week grand tour driving down through chateaux country to Lourdes and on via the amazing medieval town of Carcassonne to the Riviera, before heading back up to Paris via Burgundy.
