Have you been able to book your Covid Booster yet?I have tried, both my wife and I had our 2nd jab on 23rd April and whilst anxious to get the booster done, were happy to wait for 6m + 7 days, if only the App would let us book in advance. We are heartily sick and tired of being told 'get it soon' when we cannot book.ViewDate:

Speakers Corner CommentsEOTHO, or whatever its called. I had occasion to visit my local cafe in the village this morning to discuss an article and thought; 'While here how about a bacon butty and a cuppa!' went to pay after and the cashier said that was £6 but £3. I was puzzled but thought it was special discount for me - but 'No' it was one of Rishi's snacks. I wanted to pay the full amount but no, the Government would pay the balance. I'm all for a bargain, but think that the money for such small things would be better diverted to, say, helping the entertainment industry, who have absolutely no revenue and many will go to the wall and thousands of staff will lose their jobs and livelihoods. Quite apart from who is locked down, who can be released from detention, whether or not there will be a vaccine or a second wave - so much is confused. Apologies for droning on ...ViewDate:

Is a second national lockdown for vulnerable over 50s the right way forward?Lockdowns are, per se, not a good idea but when a large portion of the population seems to ignore good advice to protect themselves and others ... Aged (almost) 72 I have taken the middle road, not been out 'socially' since Mr Johnson announced in March.ViewDate:

Should over 70s be banned from voting on the country's future?Such utter balderdash! For the past 5+ years I have acted as a canvasser for the local council's democratic services division and am appalled by the numbers of people who haven't bothered to check or update their voter registration. This despite a letter in July, a reminder in August and a knock on the door in September/October. Each year I get a list of between 1500 and 2000 households to visit and many of them are the same doors I visited the year before. I would love for registration to be compulsory and might even go as far as to say that voting should be too.ViewDate:

Do you believe in setting New Year's Resolutions?Just over 386 days ago I resolved not to buy a print paper - mainly because of cost, but also because of the forced advertising and the 80% of content I never believed or read. In terms of cost; we took the 'Mail' every day (including Sundays) and when I sat and calculated the cost and the weight of paper consigned for recycling, I simply couldn't justify it. Now news is 'delivered or collected' via the interweb - I read or scan three dailies, two weeklies and, as of this week three monthlies and feel much better informed. This year's resolutions are; not to buy those ubiquitous temptations called 'snack bars' in the form of chocolate. I haven't resolved not to consume chocolate, simply not to pick a bar, or two, and slide them into the shopping bag (one I take with me) and: to cut down on red and pinkish meat consumption.ViewDate:

Have you changed your shopping habits to avoid plastic?Jane, its not the manufacturers but the retailers who hold the whip hand here.ViewDate:

Have you changed your shopping habits to avoid plastic?3S10 years is, perhaps a tad close to trying to reevaluate my impact on the world via plastic, but I am doing so. Yet my meagre efforts are thwarted by the manufacturers of even the most basic foodstuffs - including cakes and biscuits - to find plastic free wrappings. The most infuriating are those 'window packs' where the product is lovingly displayed through a cellophane window that we have to tear out before we recycle. Second on my list are Tassimo coffee pods (other brands are available) of which we use quite a few, and which contain foil, plastic net filters, a plastic bowl and then the coffee itself. The nearest recycling centre for us is some 35 miles away, which seems to defeat the objective.ViewDate:

Would you ‘Bung a bob for a Big Ben bong’ on Brexit night?Big Ben's Bongs are part of the soundbite that is Britain. There is no rationale on Earth that would make me pay to hear it. Which numpty called Boris suggested this.ViewDate:

How confident do you feel that the Government can deliver Brexit to the benefit of the country? As the months and years have passed since the referendum, (I voted 'Leave' btw) I have become more and more disillusioned with the political 'elite' and how they are handling this issue. It has become increasingly obvious that Theresa May is out of her depth, that Jeremy Corbyn simply wishes for the status quo and all the other politicos simply vacillate between one position or another. Do I want another referendum? Not really, because it too will add to the pendulum government we have today. But I do believe that the government are not in control.ViewDate:

Should Theresa May stay or go?Mrs May is either completely inept or the cleverest Prime Minister we ever had, I lean towards the former view. Her stances on leaving the EU, 'just managing', her Ministers and the '(lack of) power sharing with the DUP' turned me away from my natural conservative tendencies toward a more social approach. When an approaching express train hoves into view, you do not stand the, Cnut like, expecting it to give way, you explore the options and move to one side to avoid the train wreck. She appears to be on the brink of brinkmanship and it is us who will be the losers.ViewDate:

What book are you currently reading?SS-GB - len Deighton. Having read the comments in the media about 'mumblers RUs' and this series, I thought it time to reread this excellent and fast moving tome. It helps that the characters in the TV series can assist in visualisng the book which is pacy, quite believable and well written. Am I right in thinking that there was a previous serialisation of the book on TV - can find no reference to it.ViewDate:

Should Parliament have the final say on Brexit?I agree Lionel in terms of should we proceed with Article 50, what I was talking about was the outcome of it. There is a need for all of us to understand and either agree with or reject the terms of the eventual agreement. That doesn't mean I want another referendum - but I do want those who represent (sic) us to be able to put our views. This latter statement might men that MPs have to communicate with the 70,000 or so people who make up their constituency on the exact make up of the 'deal'. If I am honest I have lost 95% of any trust I had for Government and many of the Members of Parliament (although there are quite a few who I believe speak volumes) and thereby Parliament needs to ensure that the deal Mrs May and her 3 Brexiteers bring a good deal (not akin to 'Dave's' ) back for us to look at before we 'vote' on it.ViewDate:

Should Parliament have the final say on Brexit?Without shadow of a doubt - I am a Brexit voter but believe that the decision is too large to be left to the cabinet. And, what is more it ought to be a free vote, with no whips, bribes or pressure - except from MPs' constituencies.ViewDate:

How would you solve the NHS crisis? This is an innovative approach and one I would subscribe to it could generate c.£250m per annum make it £5 and it is over a Bn. Do not agree with charging for GP appts, but do agree with charges for missed appointments.ViewDate:

Purchase errorTo be honest, no! I've a Mac user for almost 15 years and apart from the expense (they are not cheap) have found them really worth having (we have almost 20 devices in the family). I have no trouble with using any of the Microsoft packages on my macbookpro, ipad or iphone - a subscription with MS means that they are fully available.ViewDate:

Going away for ChristmasWe have been away over the festering period twice - the first time around 20 years ago to Tenerife and the last a few weeks ago to South Western France. For us the latter break was so welcome as we were staying with my elder brother, his wife and her sister (she was a guest also). Fortunately (depends how you look at it) we were unencumbered by children or pets and had a smashing time in weather that was almost, but not quite, balmy. There are many 'pet friendly' (sic) hotels in the UK and I would definitely go for it, there is nothing like a bit of pampering :-) -
