Have you changed your mind?Currently if you have care at home your financial contribution is graduated on savings between approx. £14,500 and £23,000. Over £23K you get no state help but the value of your home is not taken into account. If you need residential care then the home's value is counted and the local authority can put a legal charge on it. The new plan is that the value of your property will be included in your financial assessment for care at home as well as residential care but you can keep £100,000 of it. You will not be forced to sell whilst you are alive. The winners are those in residential care who might not have had anything left, the losers are those who have care at home who will lose part of the value of their home.
