Ground-breaking Blood Test Can Identify 70 Early Stage Cancers

A pioneering new ‘liquid biopsy’ test is able to screen for early-stage cancers by checking for circulating tumour cells (CTCs) in the blood.

Over 375,000 new cancer cases are detected every year in the UK and there are over 167,000 cancer related deaths. 2

The Trucheck Early Cancer Screening Blood Test identifies 70 types of solid tumour cancer, including the top four cancers in the UK – breast, prostate, lung and bowel cancer, which are responsible for more than half of all new cases. 1

Launched after extensive clinical trials of over 40,000 participants, the test has sensitivity of 88.24% – this is the ability of the test to detect CTCs in blood samples from cancer cases.  At the same time, it offers high specificity, differentiating healthy individuals from those with cancer.  The accuracy of the test is 96.83%.  Almost half of all cancer cases are currently diagnosed at stage III or IV 3 – by being able to diagnose these patients at stage I or II could have a massive impact on treatment and survival rates.

Prof. Kefah Mokbel, Lead Surgeon at The London Breast Institute and Chair of The Multidisciplinary Breast Cancer Program at The Princess Grace Hospital, London, emphasises the importance of early cancer detection in saving lives and reducing the need for aggressive treatments and their accompanying side effects.  “The impressive data obtained from Trucheck has surpassed expectations and appears to outperform similar liquid biopsy tests and conventional imaging methods. These findings mark a significant milestone in expanding early cancer detection beyond the current screening age range and making it accessible to individuals who are not part of existing screening programs due to concerns about radiation exposure or logistical barriers”.

CEO George Thomas

The test is being offered by Goodbody Clinic in the UK – CEO George Thomas, says “After a pre-qualification call with a medical expert, a simple blood draw is all that’s required.  This can be arranged at one of over 100 Goodbody Clinic locations nationwide, or a phlebotomist can visit your home to take the blood if preferred.  The sample is then shipped to the laboratory for analysis, with results available within two weeks. Should the test find a positive result for cancer, the patient is referred to a clinician for a detailed explanation about the result and advice regarding next steps.

Ronny Helvey

Ronny Helvey (64) took a TruCheck early cancer screening blood test at Goodbody Clinic in Bath: “My Dad died of cancer aged 68, my cousin at only 58, and then recently my sister-in-law at 62.    I am very aware that prevention is better than cure and know that catching cancer early can vastly improve your chances of surviving it. When I heard about the test I thought it would be money well spent, to reduce any health anxieties I might have, not just for me, but also for my family”.

The test costs £1199 and Goodbody Clinic is offering Silversurfers members 5% of the TruCheck early cancer test. Click here to book your blood test and use code SILVER5 at the checkout for the 5% discount
