Ageing in place – the new downsizing

There are many reasons to continue living in your family home

The children have flown the nest, they have families of their own and you could be feeling slightly adrift in the home you’ve brought them up in.

What are the options though? Moving to a later living apartment means significant downsizing; divesting yourself of all those things that mean so much but take up space which you won’t have in a smaller property. Then there’s the cost of moving. When you don’t have to move, is an unnecessary expense really needed, especially at a time when prices are rising all around us?

What about when you want to have the family over at Christmas, or for a summer barbecue? You’ll certainly be grateful of the space when you sit back in the dappled summertime shade of your lovely garden and watch the grandchildren playing on the lawn.

Downsizing is expensive, moving home is stressful and if you love your home, have a good circle of friends locally, and feel part of the neighbourhood you’ve lived in for many years, then a compelling alternative would be to consider some small adaptations to your existing home. Surely a better choice than uprooting?

Make your now home, your forever home

None of us are getting any younger, and it’s worth planning for the future. Today’s accessibility solutions are far more considered and integrated than previously. You can now choose from a wide range of innovative products which focus on blending with your décor and lifestyle, rather than jarring by looking like a medical appliance.

Stiltz Homelifts have changed the accessibility landscape with their attractive, discreet and quiet domestic lifts designed specifically for the home. Stiltz is a UK company, and a 2020 Queen’s Award winner. Speaking of royalty, our late Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth chose Stiltz when adding mobility solutions to buildings on the Balmoral Estate.

The design and styling of the homelift is where Stiltz really steals a march on any other product currently available. Because it has been designed specifically for use in the home and hasn’t been adapted from a commercial solution, Stiltz have been able to create a product that looks and works like no other lift.

Curved lines and a warm grey aluminium finish with a matching glazed lift car allows natural light to flood through the home. Users love the soft blue LED lighting inside the lift car which is not just for ambience, but also for ease of use at night.

Full of advanced safety features, the Stiltz Homelift is available in two sizes. Once building work has been completed, the smaller Duo Homelift can be installed in just one day, and the more spacious Trio, in two days. Stiltz manage all building and installation work using their own teams so all you have to do is sit back … and step inside once all the hard work is done.
