Would you be willing to pay more for milk?Dairy farmers already get, on average, £28,000 a year in subsidies which WE pay for from our taxes. Why should we give them this, let alone any more? What is different about their business? If my business could not run at a profit, even after such huge subsidies, I would chose another business, not expect handouts. It's a simple case of supply and demand and at the moment the farmers are producing more milk than the market wants to buy. People are realising that cows milk was designed as a food for baby cows, not for human consumption, which is why so many people with chronic diseases get better when they stop consuming dairy products. There's a huge range of very palatable non-dairy "milk" alternatives out there now. Add that to the fact that it's production is cruel and unnecessary, and hugely damaging to the environment (see Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret) and you will see why demand is, quite rightly, plummeting.
