I would like to make new friends for general conversation onlyHi again, Moodyblue, I didn't realise you lived in the U.S., afraid I just looked at your original post. I think there should be an equivalent organisation nearby, and the advice about clubs for sport and pastimes still holds. I'm not sure which state its in but sometimes when I google for something to do with Lancing, West Sussex it comes up with Lansing, anyone know where it is? We can chat anytime, I suspect day to day life is pretty much the same, we both worked for the health service and didn't have much time to make friends after moving from Kent twenty years ago, it was on retirement that we had more time to devote to leisure activities and thankfully they have evolved into some good friendships. We are so fortunate.ViewDate:

I would like to make new friends for general conversation onlyHi Moodyblue, I know how difficult it can be to meet new people, both online and in person, are you active or less able to get out and about? There is a great organisation called the U3A, which stands for the University of the Third Age. Don't get me wrong, it covers interest groups ranging from Mah Jong to Walking and card-making to learning a new language, most of these are self led activities where there are no formal tests or exams. Go online to www.U3A.org and look at the website. Another source of meeting people is to contact the Royal Voluntary Society who may have a cafe or centre where all kinds of activity for all age groups are held. Contact the local boule (Pétanque) club or similar if you plaŷ a sport. Good luck, if you live in Lancing, West Sussex all these groups and more are very active.ViewDate:

Gluten FreeThank you for creating this discussion group, I'd love to share ideas, recipes and tips on here. Coeliac UK do a great job and things have improved tremendously even in the last three years since diagnosis. I'd especially like your opinion of the new labelling regulations, are they helpful to you or not?ViewDate:

Rock & Roll, strikes and failing BritainThe outrage over Bii Haley, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis' hips was astounding to us kids in the late fifties, we saw nothing wrong. Obviously smashing up theatre seats was wrong and led by a few whom others followed for fear of a beating later. Technology may be better today but at least there were coffee bars we hung out in in the evenings and other places kids could go. I feel really sorry for the young where I live, the cafes close around five, no skate park or other amenities and not everyone wants to go to youth clubs.ViewDate:

Is it wrong to spend your kids’ inheritance? The house is all our heirs will get, any money that we haven't spent on enjoying ourselves and living and keeping well will go to named charities. We have no children of our own between us, my stepdaughter hasn't bothered with her father or me for years, the heirs are nieces and nephews who all have other, closer relatives to inherit from too, so why not spend it. Be the same if we had one or six children of our own.
