Where the little boy lays

This very poignant poem was written by Teresa Harrison-Best … With the very distressing image of a young Syrian boy found drowned in Turkey, she thought she would write something in response. A very sad day for mankind.

Where the little boy lays

He has no future or freedom,
his passage has come to an end.
A little boy robbed of his life now,
the sea his pitiless friend.

No comforting words to protect him,
instead the roar of the sea.
A little boy lies on the shore now,
no struggle, he’s finally free.

We watch them lift his soaked body,
our tears of grief trickle down.
A little boy’s figure is taken
from the place where his body was found.

Condemnation and anger now follow,
nations will vent out their rage.
The little boy lies in his grave now,
as we all turn to the next page.

No hope for fresh new beginning,
just a grave for his limp, little frame.
A little boy’s name will fade in our memories,
like a dwindling, shadowy flame.
