Discover the most picturesque spots in Italy

There are so many different reasons why we go on holiday.

To explore new cuisines, learn more about a destination’s cultural past, or even just to top up the tan. If one of your reasons is to take in some beautiful scenery, then look no further. The Silversurfers Travel Club has come up with 4 picturesque spots to get the best views and photos in Italy on your next holiday. From grand panoramic views of rugged mountain passes to pretty coastal villages overlooking azure seas, there’s a backdrop for every kind of traveller’s adventure.

Grand Hotel Menaggio, Lake Como

Located in a prime location right on the edge of the water, the Grand Hotel Menaggio has the views everyone goes to Lake Como for. Relax by the pool and admire how the mountains in the distance frame the lake perfectly. You don’t even have to leave the hotel building itself for brilliant views, as you’re able to watch the scenery from the dining areas as you tuck into a deliciously fresh Italian feast, as well as from your room as you laze in bed. It truly is a heavenly place to relax in style with views to die for.

Hotel Sorapiss, Tre Cime di Lavaredo

Found in the north of the country, the Tre Cime di Lavaredo are some of the most recognisable peaks in the Alps. Formed of three distinct towering pillars, they jut imposingly out of the ground, completely dominating the surrounding landscape. The area is perfect for hikes taking in the natural, rugged beauty of the Dolomites. For accommodation close by and with its own fantastic mountain views, stay at the cosy, family-run Hotel Sorapiss. Located in Misurina, guests can enjoy classic Alpine styling and comfort. In the restaurant we’d recommend the spätzle made with Tirolese speck, for a true Alpine dish. There’s also a large terrace where you can enjoy a coffee as you watch the clouds swirl around the peaks of the limestone mountains that surround you.

Serristori Palace Residence, Piazzale Michelangelo

Florence is home to a multitude of mesmerising sights. There’s Michelangelo’s David statue, Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus, and the impressive Duomo, with its massive dome and bell tower. If you’re looking for somewhere to take in the whole city, then Piazzale Michelangelo is the spot for you, with panoramic views unfolding in sweeping fashion. Stay at the Serristori Palace Residence, only a 10-minute walk away from the piazzale for classic Italian styling in the heart of Florence itself. The best feature is the amazing rooftop terrace, where you can enjoy a glass of the finest Chianti after a long day exploring, with views over the river to rival that of the Piazzale Michelangelo itself.

Ventegà Sea View Apartment, Cinque Terre

Meaning ‘Five Lands’, Cinque Terre is made up of the small coastal villages of Monterosso, Corniglia, Manarola, Vernazza, and Riomaggiore, spread along the Italian Riviera. Known for their iconic brightly coloured buildings, coastal locations, and authentic Italian charm, they really are a sight to behold. The Ventegà Sea View Apartment is a great base to explore these fantastic villages from. Located in Vernazza, the most popular of the five villages, there’s plenty to see and do here, with the Doria Castle perched on the hilltop, the church of Santa Margherita, and the port itself. For the best view of the village, head onto the hiking trail that leads to Monterosso. After around 15 minutes you’ll be in an elevated position allowing you to capture the full beauty of the colourful buildings, turquoise waters, and rugged cliffs.
