Springtime smoothies and juices

As the days are getting warmer and the days longer, If you find yourself with a sudden burst of energy, you’re not alone. 

It’s the perfect time to shake off the last of winter, spend more time outdoors and fill our days up with lots of activity.

You might also find your wintertime staples no longer appeal – if you’re looking for a change from warming morning meals like porridge and eggs, try some smoothies and juices instead.

They’re light, refreshing, easy to make and packed full of fruits and veg – perfect for spring!

Hawaiian strawberry smoothie

Hawaiian strawberry smoothie

You’ll need

  • 250g strawberries
  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 2 ripe mangos
  • 2 ripe peaches
  • ¼ watermelon
  • 250 ml of fresh orange juice
  • 2 tbsp of honey
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice

What to do

    1. Firstly prepare the fruit. Hull the strawberries and slice them in half. Peel the bananas and chop into chunks. Peel the mango and cut the flesh into cubes. Slice the peaches into quarters. De-seed the watermelon and chop into chunks. Freeze overnight or use straightaway.
    2. Place the frozen fruit in a liquidiser or blender. Add the orange and lemon juice and honey and whizz until smooth.
    3. Pour into a tall glasses and serve.

Spinach and mango smoothie

Spinach and Mango Smoothie

You’ll need

  • A large handful of spinach
  • 200g frozen mango
  • One medium banana
  • 250ml coconut water, water or apple juice

What to do

  1. Add spinach, frozen mango, banana and coconut water to blender and blitz. If smoothie is too thick, add a little more water until you achieve your desired consistency.

Blueberry and raspberry smoothie with red cabbage

Blueberry & Raspberry Smoothie

You’ll Need

  • 225g (8oz) or about 1⁄4 red cabbage
  • 225g (8oz) or about 1 large beetroot, trimmed & scrubbed
  • 175g (6oz) raspberries
  • 100g (4oz) blueberries
  • 2 teaspoons runny honey or to taste

What to do 

1. Cut the red cabbage and beetroot into pieces that will fit in your juicer shoot then press through an electric juicer.

2. Puree the raspberries and blueberries with a little of the red cabbage and beetroot juice in a liquidiser until smooth then add the remaining juice and sweeten to taste with honey.

3. Pour into two glasses and serve immediately or pour into a sports drinks container, seal well and take to the gym for a post workout energy boost.

Beetroot, apple & grapefruit juice

 You’ll need

  • 1 pack of vacuum packed natural cooked beetroot
  • 2 apples
  • 1 peeled grapefruit

What to do

  1. Put your apples, grapefruit and beetroot into your juicer. Pour into glasses and serve.
