Exercise on holiday and when travelling

Welcome to another Instepp and Silversurfers partnership blog.

A bit about me for those who are new here:

My name is Julie Ford, creator of Instepp.

At the age of 65 I didn’t retire, I restarted and became an inventor; I invented Instepp.

Instepp is built on the established methods of exercise therapists to combine the benefits of resistance training with fundamental movement. Put simply, Instepp was designed to activate, tone, and strengthen your whole body.

A lot of us spend time trying to get ourselves ‘holiday ready’ through diet and exercise, which can often result in unsustainable eating and fitness regimes followed by a ‘blow out’.

I like to think about this in a different way. If you haven’t already, why not do yourself a favour and work some movement into your holiday? If your exercise is unenjoyable, there’s a good chance you won’t want to stick to it, so think about ways that you can move and enjoy.

My fitness philosophy is that walking in the free, fresh air (with resistance from your Instepp!) is the key to sustainable and enjoyable movement. Most of us will travel around the local vicinity on holiday, so clip on your Instepp and put that walk to even better use by using your Instepp for short or longer journeys.

It’s well known that even very light exercise can boost your mood and wellbeing as well as keeping your joints and muscles moving well.

For the more keen movers amongst you, I know that working out ways to move when you’re in transit can be a challenge.

With this in mind, I made sure that Instepp is light, portable and easy to use in the immediate space that you’re occupying.

Here are some ideas for exercising whilst travelling:

  1. In a plane or on a train you can take regular walks down the carriage aisle. Make sure to move your limbs and as much of your body as possible.
  2. When seated, move your ankles around in circles, one at a time, to boost circulation and stretch stiff muscles
  3. You can attach your Instepp at the beginning of your journey and use it either seated by just moving your wrists to your shoulders (see the workout video at the end of this article) or by using it when walking down the carriage aisle.

If you get looks from other travellers, tell them Julie has got an Instepp for them too…

Seriously, though – Instepp is a fantastic way to help you enjoy some movement while travelling. It can be functional and it can be fun!
