Spray Foam Removal Company Lifts Lid on Scam that Targets Most Vulnerable

Reputable brand and consumer champions, Spray Foam Removal Ltd, is committed to raising awareness around spray foam insulation scams that they have to deal with.

Jon Sweeney of Spray Foam Removal, said, “We’re seeing an increase in the number of spray foam scams that we’re having to fix.  These scammers are doing what scammers do best and targeting the most vulnerable in our society. We want to let people know how these scams are happening so they can know what to look out for and prevent it from happening to them.”

While the scammers are making money out of their actions, the consequences of what they do can render homes un-mortgageable and unsellable.

As with so many scammers, research is everything. Scouting for prospects by phone, these companies will call and introduce themselves as a trusted local energy advisor working in the area. This unsolicited call offers a free roof survey. This offer is merely to get their foot in the door so they can sell them an overpriced and often unneeded service such as spray foam insulation. They’ll possibly also offer them an unbeatable – and made up – discount to seal the deal.

After inspection, the scammers really apply the pressure using a calculator to demonstrate what they will save on the roof repairs that are coming their way due to damp. They also throw in some numbers about savings on heating and energy bills. While the homeowner deals with the shock of the ‘state’ of their roof, the scammer is offering them the deal of a life time –‘buy now’ only.

Further pressure tactics are applied, with calls to managers to secure a bigger discount and a ‘start-tomorrow’ option, with 25% deposit payment taken on-the-spot. The spray goes on and things seem to be fine.

Whether it’s releasing equity or selling, a surveyor will discover the spray foam in the loft and will be unable to inspect the loft timbers which are foam-covered and cannot be assessed. The roof structure may also be compromised and the roof unstable. The application fails and the homeowner is left bewildered and unsure as to what they can do to move forward.
