What is your favourite Buddy Holly song?

This day in 1936,  Buddy Holly was born and he would have been celebrating his 80th birthday today.

Buddy Holly died at the age of 22, on February 3, 1959, often referred to as “the day the music died.” But even in his short time, Buddy Holly changed the sound and look of rock ‘n’ roll forever, leaving a permanent standard that continues to influence artists all over the world.

In only 18 months, from when Buddy Holly and the Crickets hit the charts with their first release, That’ll Be The Day, to when he died in a tragic plane crash, Buddy Holly topped the charts with more than 27 Top 40 hits worldwide, with That’ll Be The Day going to No. 1.

From rock to country to R&B, Holly’s songs have charted consistently for more than 50 years, proving that his music and his influence continue today.

I loved Buddy instantly and was devastated when he was killed. I'm 71 now and I still play his music (very, very loud!)

As others have said, difficult to choose just one. Buddy was one of my Mum's favourites as well so we grew up on this kind of music. Thank you Mum x

It's very hard to say only one song as I can relate to so many of his hits during my teenage years, I love them all.

Such a talent, lost to us too soon. But his legacy lives on. Love all the songs , but one of my favourites is True Love Ways.

I always loved Buddys music. I see he had written "Not Fade away" as that was a huge hit for the Rolling Stones and always presumed it was their song

Fantastic songs. Such a shame as didn't realise Buddy was only 22 when he died. What a genius and how many other incredible songs would he have written!
