Is retiring in the sun a dream come true?I retired to Spain, 14 years ago. We moved over, lock, stock and barrel. Apart from our families we cut off everything, banks houses etc. At first we bought a 300 year old farmhouse, renovated it, but decided we really didn't want to be as isolated as we were. We then moved to a small village. We were there for 3 years then decided to move to the town, which is where we have been ever since. We have a beautiful townhouse in a Spanish town, have wonderful Spanish neighbours and love every moment of living here. Unfortunately both of us have had to avail ourselves of the hospital here. Him for a triple by pass and me for a hip replacement. We found the hospitals and care brilliant. The cost of living here is much better for us. We own our house, can live on our state pension, all bills paid. We manage to go out every day. The sun is the icing. Don't listen to everything you hear and read in the papers and on television, they only show the negative. If any other readers are interested in taking the plunge, I would say, "go for it!!!).ViewDate:

Make a financial plan for your retirement abroadWe moved to Spain 14 years ago and have never looked back. Despite the financial problems over here we are not really affected as our incomes come from England. Here we can afford to live on our pension comfortably. We can afford to go out on a regular basis, own our own house. Both my husband and I have both had to use the health service, he for a triple heart bypass and me with a hip replacement. The care we received was exemplary. Neither of us waited longer than two weeks. Too much negativity is thrown at we expats and the Spanish which is very biased. Yes, We do miss families but they love coming to see us. Yes we do receive the heating allowance, it does get colder in the winter. On the whole, I would reccomend it, but it doesn't suit everyone.ViewDate:

Fifty shades of greyI have been grey for quite a few years now. Wouldn't change it. Even my hairdresser tells me not to colour it. Here in Spain, the older women are obsessed with colouring their hair, usually bright red yuk. -
