Should you be allowed to show tattoos at work?I have a friend who has a very large facial disfigurement. When I first met her it was all I could see. Now I forget and don't understand why others stare at her when we're out together. The more you're with someone the more these external differences fade. Most people who get tattoos done see them as works of art, and are no more a problem than someone's choice of tie or the pattern on a blouse. Some women look a fright with all the slap they wear on their face. At my mother-in-law's care home there is a carer with many tattoos and purple hair, and another with a punk hair do and face piercings. The old dears are fascinated by it all and have no problem remembering their names. Many years ago when I worked in an office, my boss always nominated the same person to cover for him on temporary promotion. This guy was always well turned out in a smart suit and tie, polished shoes etc. He was also as thick as a brick. But in my boss's eyes he fitted the bill because of how he looked! Don't judge a book by it's cover. It's the person underneath that's important.ViewDate:

UK and the EU: Better off out or in?The EU isn't has developed much further than when we voted to join under Ted Heath, but it was Thatcher who took us from the EEC to the EU, and without a referendum. Brown took us further with the Lisbon Treaty (necessary with all the new countries joining). It isn't perfect, but then what do we expect of an institution devised by politicians? Churchill might have thought the UK would be better out of Europe but that was then, when we were at the head of the Commonwealth, and he wanted us to be closer to the USA. The Americans aren't interested in our small country, except they want us to stay in Europe to promote friendly relations between Europe and the USA. Our days of Empire ended in the last century, and this country needs to look forward to see where it's interests are best served, and that is staying in Europe where we already do most of our business. To me it isn't the European immigrants who refuse to accept British values and traditions, it is immigrants from our old Empire counties who bring their own values, religions and traditions with them and set themselves up apart from the Brits. Refusing to accept our values etc is an insult. If they don't like how we do things here then they should go back home.ViewDate:

Has The Archers had its day?I used to be a regular listener, even downloading podcasts to take away on holiday to catch up, but story lines would start and then nothing more would be heard about it as other story lines took over. It became unfocused and confusing at times. Now i only tune in if I'm in my car at 2pm. It doesn't seem to matter whether I've missed a whole week as not much seems to happen very quickly. I can't understand why they change the actors either. I still find the voice of the 'new' Clarrie still strange, and why have they sacked Tom and replaced him with another actor? Do they think we won't notice?
