5:2 Eating planComing to this late but 5:2 is not new to me. I first did 5:2 , 600 cals a day back in 2013 and was very successful losing 23 lb in around 4 months. It was hard to maintain at times but recently its founder Michael Mosley has developed a variation which my wife and me both do and find much more achievable. For 3 days a week we both eat 800 cals which makes it much easier to do and the weight does come off. I have lost 12lb in around 10 weeks, my wife 12lb. The recent research by Prof Roy Taylor at Newcastle University into reversing T2 diabetes with an 800 cal per day diet was the impetus given to Michael Mosley developing his 5:2 variation to 800 cals. The other health benefits of course are internal with the reduction of fats and the improving medical markers reducing the chances of cancers, stroke and heart attack. I recommend it to members.ViewDate:

Should smoking be brought back into pubs?I believe the smoking ban is about the only good thing Tony Blair did as Prime Minister. I have lost count of the number of times I would arrive home with my clothes smelling like an Ashtray and me a non smoker. This was a result of me socialising in pubs or having a meal where smokers light up and let their disgusting smoke drift all over me. I was once in a restaurant and told a smoker he was spoiling my meal by his smoke drifting over me. He laughed at me saying the smoke was simply a by-product of his cigarette and harmless. I pointed out in return that my urine was simply a by-product of the wine I was drinking and harmless so he would not therefore object if I released my by-product by peeing all over him. His wife then got up and insisted they leave. One up to me but it could have turned nasty.ViewDate:

How can we improve the health of the nation?Portion size information for our foods would be welcome. How many of us actually know what size a steak should be (or look like) to be of benefit to us. For that matter just how big a portion of a casserole should we serve ourselves. Such info should be known to us all but I certainly dont know the answer and I doubt very much if many more of us do.ViewDate:

Fashion tips for older menAs a mid 60s male sporting a beard and not much hair I recognise the importance of being smartly dressed. However what I consider smart can be very different to what my wife considers smart. There is very little info for us "mature or middle aged men" regarding dress sense and colour co-ordination so any good, informed advice is most welcome. I agree with the comments about quality not quantity but this can be a problem for many in terms of cost. In my local town there is a menswear shop that is upmarket (Ian Botham shops there) and has some excellent designs but a bit pricey. I do treat myself from time to time. What about shoes though?. What goes with the clothes?. I visit a local shoe shop in Durham City and drool over a superb pair of expensive (£325.00) pair of dark brown brogues. What is the point of splashing out if there is no co-ordination with what one wears?.
