Would you trust driverless cars?Would driverless cars use indicators, keep a sensible distance, keep within the speed limits, park sensibly and treat other road users with respect? They would be an improvement on certain 'human' drivers at present. The standard of drivers in general at this current time leaves a lot to be desired.ViewDate:

Are you concerned about the economic impact of Brexit?I was always concerned that if we were to leave the EU, did we have the right people to negotiate our leaving, I have no confidence in the current people carrying out the withdrawal. One question I would like an answer to is I keep hearing about getting the 'best deal' but there has been no clear definition from anyone what this best deal is. Best deal for who?ViewDate:

Do you believe it's right to ban the sale of petrol and diesel cars? The Govt are going down the wrong road with the emphasis on electric vehicles - nothing new there! They should be investing in the infrastructure and use of hydrogen fuel cells, enabling the continued use of internal combustion engines emitting very little harmful emissions and is also an abundant fuel supply. How is the electricity and manufacture of all the new vehicles going to be managed, by using fossil fuels?ViewDate:

Does the country need a new 'caretaker' prime minister?I have written on another topic before that Mrs May seems to be a Marmite figure and some of the comments on this question really do show that. Due to Mrs May calling the election to obtain a sdignificant mandate, the Electorate obviously diud not want to give her that mandate, hence a hung parliament. So in my humble opinion, we should have cross-party involvement in such things as Brexit, NHS, education, immigration, etc, if it could be done. It surely must dawn on most people that this enforced 'austerity' has not worked and the ordinary, 'hard working' people in this country are sick of it and have seen through it as yet another Tory con - remember Cameron saying something like 'we are all in this together', hmmm, I don't think so. As I have gotten older I understand life a bit more and I don't believe in coincidence, rather cause & effect and if we as a country want to progress in this modern world we must change from being driven by profit above people.ViewDate:

Should Theresa May Resign or Remain?Yes Wilf, I saw the same interview and could not believe that Hammond cannot see what is blatantly obvious to anyone with an ounce of common sense. This man is in charge of the Country's finances for God's sake !ViewDate:

Should Theresa May Resign or Remain?I'm sorry but I disagree that she is a strong woman in a no win position. She's just had an election where she was in a strong position but blkew it and put herself in a worse, powerless position - that was her decision. Strong and stable was the mantra - I think not.ViewDate:

Should Theresa May Resign or Remain?Well said - could not agree more. We as a country seem to have gone from being 'do-ers' to being form fillers, box tickers, steering groups, committees, bean counters, etc ...ViewDate:

Should Theresa May Resign or Remain?I have heard one Tory MP Tobias Ellwood state that an excuse for not speaking to the people was for security reasons, mmmm, makes you think. Same with Jeremy Hunt not visiting any hospitals really - hero nurses doing a great job.ViewDate:

Should Theresa May Resign or Remain?Yes Wilf, these poor people need help - not just for the short term as well. It is 2017 and we are (supposedly) one of the wealthiest, most we technologically advanced countries in the world. This fire is down to incompetence, lack of responsibility & accountability and cutting corners/penny pinching. Buckingham Palace and the House Of Ccomons are due very expensive refurbishment, will those buildings be subject to the same poor level of refurbishment? I think not.ViewDate:

Should Theresa May Resign or Remain? It seems that Mrs May is a 'marmite figure' and there a number of people who support her and a larger number who dislike her. I think her visit to the Grenfell Tower Block yesterday and not bothering to speak to survivors and local residents speaks volumes for her as a Prime Minister and a 'woman of the people'. It certainly speaks far more eloquently than I can on her ability. I've just seen one of her toady 'government chums' Savid Javed trying to excuse her lack of empathy and how she is a 'leader' - extremely embarrassing. She has obviously learned nothing from the election. The Brexit negotiations are due to start on Monday - god help us.ViewDate:

Should Theresa May Resign or Remain? She won't resign, she will have to be replaced by a backstabbing opportunist in the Tory party. This election has really shown the state of the country and what a mess it is in. Does anyone believe that any of the current politicians give a toss about the people in this country? Or just their own egos?ViewDate:

Should 'INACTIVE' over-50s go back to work?Just another example of an incompetent minister who does not understand the issue at all. Why doesn't he take a job share and allow one of the 'millions' of over 50's to earn a few quid in a cushy job? What he really means is that he sees people over 50 who are not gainfully employed as 'scroungers' (yet again) and why shouldn't they be forced to take on totally unsuitable, minimum wage, zero hours jobs that nobody wants?ViewDate:

Will you still watch The Great British Bake Off without Mary Berry?Oh dear, it seems to be you have misunderstood my first comment - if you re-read it, I clearly state that for some people to actually complain about and for the media to give such a large amount of front page news and air time to what is basically a trivial unimportant issue, I do believe indicates that some people do have a sad, vacuous life - and to maybe just look at the 'real' issues going on in this country and the rest of the world that these people and the media could (and really should) make valid complaint about. In addition, I don't believe that I am a 'miserable old intellectual' - my wife might disagree though!! - I am relatively educated (to A level), have quite a happy, good life where I have a fair amount of time to enjoy my many and varied interests due to the fact I am semi-retired, work a maximum of about 15 hours per week on my own home business (not a millionaire but earn well above the UK average wage), have no mortgage, own my own home plus a holiday home close to a National Park - I may even be moving permanently abroad within a couple of years for my wife's health, I have a close family with 2 brilliant, unique and very funny grand-kids, a wide circle of friends, so overall I'm quite happy. Therefore regrettably I don't believe I'm in need of 'lightening up' by watching said TV programme - I'll just take it easy and carry on being concerned about real matters like the NHS, leaving the EU, homelessness, the Northern 'poor house', my grand-kids future, i.e education, job opportunities, their potential housing, etc... etc,,.. but thanks all the same.ViewDate:

Should the Government create more Grammar Schools? Why are successive Governments so obsessed with their constant tinkering and trying to 'improve' education when they have no ideas how, either new or outdated. Education (in addition to NHS. Immigration, Welfare, Crime, EU exit, et al - The Whole Country !) is in a mess and we do not seem to have any politicians of either political persuasion who have a clue how to move forward. My Grand-daughter has just taken and passed her GCSE's and it didn't really matter what subjects she took or passed as there are no jobs for her to go to if she wanted to leave school at 16. She understands she will have to do well at A level and/or university then probably move away from the area if she wants to start a career, not just a dead-end job. I passed the 11+, went to grammar school but wasn't a particularly good scholar - just not interested. The school went comprehensive and joined up with 2 others and that was that. I did enjoy further education though, going to cillege as part of my engineering apprenticeship and further studies.ViewDate:

Do you support the Junior Doctor's latest planned 5 day strike? The problem eminates from the totally inept Mr Hunt and his statement of the Tory manifesto pledge to provide a "7 day" NHS - which must be said that only a minority of the electorate voted for in the election. All of this is a smokescreen for the dismantling of the NHS and is the thin end of the wedge, and only certain specifics and statistics are routinely wheeled out - no mention of going to India and using an agency in hiring some 500 "doctors" to try to bridge the gap of the doctor shortage. The NHS will not exist if this shower of a Govt get their way. Just look at everything the Govt has its fingers in, and the mess it is causing - immigration, education, welfare, EU, etc.... It is the people of this country that are suffering and will suffer. Why can't we have the NHS ring-fenced and a cross party committee set up for long term planning? By the way, I am not a supporter of the Opposition either, they would do no better.ViewDate:

Should Police budgets be cut?Like a lot of institutions, the Police as a whole are too top heavy with more chiefs than Indians - this is where the cost savings should be made, not the bobbies on the beat. Mind you, there seemed to be a lot of PC's at the recent Chinese PM's visit.ViewDate:

Would you support Junior Doctors if they go on strike?I have just voted on this topic and the results show 37% not in favour, yet the vast majority of comments on here support the junior doctors if they go out on strike - strange? On my most recent jobs, I had to sign something brought in by the EU about working more than 48 hours a week. Does this not apply to junior doctors then?ViewDate:

Has the magic of Christmas diminished?Unfortunately I totally agree that Christmas has just become too commercialised and materialistic, it is more about the quantity of what people (mainly kids) get as presents. Maybe as we have gotten older we lose that innocence and magic of Christmas, but I see a poor attitude from my own grandkids as to the real meaning of Christmas as it just seems a time when they can get even more overpriced stuff in addition to the vast amount they already have.ViewDate:

Looking after a grandchildI understand your concerns but find your attitude quite selfish I am sorry to say. My own personal circumstances are quite different in that me and my wife are not allowed to have contact with our grandchildren by a very selfish and spiteful daughter. You should put the grandchild and his welfare above your own. I would love to have your situation of having regular contact with my grandchildren and I believe it will enrich your life rather than putting a strain on your weekends together.ViewDate:

Should Britain agree to take more refugees?I find some of the comments on here quite distasteful. Am I the only one ashamed of a certain section of people in this country who have no compassion for human beings? Or is it just a complete lie that this country is so wealthy and everything is so rosy (fastest growing economy in Europe, more people in work, deficit down, blah, blah, blah). We have taken 216 refugees in this country so far - is that sufficient for Cameron & The Eton boys? The same people on here and throughout this country voted this pathetic lot in to power then complain that there's no housing, jobs, schools, hospitals, etc.. for their own people, never mind helping people in dire straits. I have seen on TV today Cameron boastting about being in Jordan/Lebanon in the Refugee camps 3 years ago - and what has he done since? Did he not foresee the problems then? No, he bleats on about how much money we have sent as aid and how the refugees should be grateful of this aid and stay in tents for the rest of their life. It's all about money with this lot - Thatcher would be very proud.ViewDate:

Should the House of Lords be reformed? The WHOLE political system needs to be reformed and move on to a modern system which represents a modern-looking country. Our outdated and 'olde worlde' country needs updating in general. The old traditions need to be updated (not necessarily forgotten) but we live too much in the past in this country. What is the average age of the elected MP's and non-elected Lords? How can basically upper-class, middle-aged (and older) men have any idea how to run the country and have a say on the country's direction for the benefit of all the people.ViewDate:
24th Aug 2015SovereignInventory commented on:
Are you financially stable?I have commented before on a similar topic but there used to be 2 types of people, the 'have's' and 'have nots'. This has been expanded to include 2 more groups, the 'have lots' and 'those that believe they have's'. The question indicates a condition of being financially stable - what one person's definition of financial stability is may not be anothers. A multi-millionaire who is down to their last half-million may not feel financially stable at all, yet a lot of people would be happy to be in that position. I believe the Silver Surfer generation (and older) may on the whole be better off financially having been able to work and buy property at more sensible prices, but the threat of an ever-lengthening pensionable age and a gloomy outlook for pensions may mean many people may not reach and enjoy a financially comfortable retirement. I genuinely feel sorry for the younger generations as I believe they will not be comparably financially stable as the Silver Surfer generation.ViewDate:

Are the over 50s more caring than younger age groups? It would be interesting to try to quantify this - is it about how much money that different age groups give to charities, or how do you quantify 'care' ? Are there any statistics that would back this claim up and distinguish what age groups actually give to charity - although this would not be a yardstick to measure actual 'care' ?
