Man at Work - looking for relationship adviceI tried to get him to sit down for a coffee but he was in a bad mood and said "I don't think so". Someone has damaged him in the past I'm certain. I suspect it was his family. He has had many fathers and mothers, step siblings etc. He does lack confidence and likes to be praised a lot. He hides away when photos are taken and tends to avoid getting close to people emotionally. I think he does this to avoid getting hurt. I agree men always say women are hard to understand but men can give us a run for our money as well.ViewDate:

Man at Work - looking for relationship advicethanks CaroleAH - I can see now what may be happening. I'll keep in touch especially from my safety angle. I haven't come across control freaks before. I guess I've been lucky up to now. Thanks for enlightening me. I'll tread carefully.ViewDate:

Did the punishment fit the crime? At junior school: I had the ruler across my hand, in front of the class - my crime was not knowing my 9 times table well enough. On another occasion I was made to stay in at lunchtime and clean out all the ink pots. The water went blue and my hands and wrists went blue. My crime on this occasion was not paying attention to the teacher reading "The Hobbit" by JRR Tolkien. After that, the teacher, Mr Cross, made me sit on the floor by his stinky feet whenever he read the book. His other lessons were so boring that I use to fall asleep behind a reading book. At secondary school: Chemistry teacher use to throw things at me - they got bigger as the term went on - bit of chalk- bigger bits of chalk - blackboard rubber - finally she threw a Bunsen burner at me which caused me to duck down and it hit the wall taking out a large hole and plaster everywhere. My crime was not looking interested!ViewDate:

Man at Work - looking for relationship adviceMy colleagues say that he is an intensely private person and they don't know much about him. He seems to have had a really awful upbringing. He talks about me to other colleagues in other departments about my past job because it shows I have degrees in a few subjects and this is unusual for a person at our place or he talks about funny happenings at work involving me. I don't know why he asked about my husbands grave. It sort of threw me a bit too. Maybe, he thinks I should be in black and permanently in mourning. I'm quite quiet at work and just get on with my job. The lockdown has given me chance to think about the situation and I agree with you. When I go back to work I'll keep busy and away from him. The only thing is he seems to always know where I am at any time and I haven't worked out how he does it as my workplace is a vast area. I tried to 'hide' away on a task once to purposely avoid him and within a few minutes he popped up like a meercat. He seems friendly enough but he is very old fashioned in his ways. He is very protective of me and makes sure I'm safe. However, I agree it is a bit odd. I wanted to be sure it wasn't me making a mountain out of a molehill! Thanks
