"really" making new friends!I know it's probably not an easy line to go down, but I find one can meet people and make friends if you have a dog to take for walks. I lost my husband 6 months ago, since when I have obtained a small dog. Whilst walking him in our village I came into contact with another recently-bereaved lady (we met in the local churchyard !), ,got talking and as she was new to the village I gave her my number and said if she felt down and wanted to talk, she could contact me any time. She rang me a few days later and asked if I would like to meet up for coffee. This was a few weeks ago and we now go out regularly for coffee and/or lunch (covid regs permitting) and both feel our meeting has helped. I have also started talking to two other ladies in the village whom I'd not met before, because they stopped to pat my dog. It is hard to make new friends when you join a club or group sometimes, because as you say many people join with friends. .Keep trying and I'm sure you will be successful. I have also made a friend online via this group, when a lady replied to something I'd put on a Silversurfer forum, and we now write regularly to each other. Good luck and I hope you make new friends soon.ViewDate:

What are your views on TV Charity Begging Adverts?I was just reading comments on the forum about Scotland and the question of independence. Would you not consider that a lot of the comments are very racist because of the way one person in particular refers to the English? I'm just a bit surprised it's allowed on this friendly group.ViewDate:

Will the pandemic put an end to paying with cash? Some smaller shops still don't have the machines for paying by card. Our village shop is also a post office but to buy bread, milk etc we still need cash. Also our village hairdressers only takes cash or a cheque.ViewDate:

Would you vote to legalise euthanasia?I absolutely agree. I think we should be able to sign something when we are able to do so to this effect. My husband died recently from prostate cancer and he was asked a few days beforehand by a McMillan nurse if he wanted to agree to a Do Not Resuscitate order being put on his medical record, which he did. How is this much different to us being able to say we want to end our life if we get to the point where life has no quality ? Thankfully, my husband passed away peacefully at home in our own bed with me and our daughter beside him but he had suffered for some weeks of not being able to care for himself and I know he hated losing his dignity..ViewDate:

Do you enjoy seeing urban foxes?I've lived in a rural village in Wales for nearly 14 years and have only ever seen 2 foxes, yet when living in the Midlands we saw them in our road and also there were foxes in the garden of a medical practice where I worked.ViewDate:

Are newspaper stories to blame for destroying lives?Harry and Megan brought their problems with the press on themselves. They had a tremendous following of people who really liked them but they made some unpopular decisions such as not allowing photos of Archie when he was born and the secrecy of his Christening and people were dismayed at their attitude. Megan in particular welcomed publicity at one time but started to act like a spoilt primadonna.ViewDate:

Do you buy a daily newspaper or do you read the news online?I much prefer to read a newspaper than search through the Internet for news.ViewDate:

Is a second national lockdown for vulnerable over 50s the right way forward? How come a certificate with a diagnosis was issued before an autopsy was carried out?ViewDate:

Is a second national lockdown for vulnerable over 50s the right way forward?Noooooo! Let's put the young teenagers and all those who think it's ok to crowd onto packed beaches or stand in long queues without masks or any pretence at maintaining social distancing into lockdown and see how they cope - or, let's get them back to work! Anything to stop them crowding and possibly then passing Covid 19 onto older folk who are trying to keep to rules and stay apart and help the NHS.ViewDate:

Should all GP appointments go online?O I don't understand why it is ok for palliative care nurses, district nurses, and carers to come into our homes to see us BUT doctors only speak to us on the 'phone. When my husband very sadly passed away at the end of May and I telephoned the local on-call service (it was a Saturday morning) I was even asked if I wanted a doctor to certify the death or would it be ok to wait until the district nurse was due and she could do it! I requested a doctor and indeed a very caring doctor did come, but it should not be like this.Hospital doctors are patients face to face so why not GPs? The only doctor who saw my husband face to face at home was from the local Hospice - a lovely lady who spent two hours with us two days before he passed away. -
