Does the UK need another political party?I’d just like to thank Silver Surfers for this forum. As I’m not allowed to speak in public in case I offend somebody (or more pertinently in case they issue a lawsuit against me) I find venting my ‘....ist’ opinions here very therapeutic especially for my high blood pressure, so thanks again, even my wife agrees that this column has been nearly as effective on my demeanour as the gag she bought me for Christmas.ViewDate:

Does the UK need another political party?Being a dinosaur who thinks the world’s gone completely bonkers, my opinions are usually dismissed as the rantings of a left wing racist, homophobic misogynist, but In this instance I fully empathise with this so called breakaway group because they all have one thing in common. Whether they were formally dedicated public servants passionately believing in the Tory right wing values of capitalism, or devotees of Labours left wing redistribution of poverty ‘values’ it is obvious that they were all ready to give up their passionate devotion because they are all spineless traitors. If they do furtively combine and decompose into some sort of organism and seek support from the voting populous for their revised ideologies then I just hope, but do not expect that populous to recognise the fact that not one of them could possibly have any idea of what an ideal, devotion, loyalty or duty could possibly mean if it came up and bit them on the arse! Will they change their minds again next time the going gets tough or will their newly discovered loyalty and devotion to their fellow microbes be sufficient to keep the bacterial growth together? They may think we the great unwashed were sympathetic to their honourable decisions to disagree with their respective parties’ policies and resign, but that would give credence to the assumption that they were any more aware of the concept of honour than the other admirable qualities they so readily abandoned. Traitors one and all, obviously the next government. Very soon elections, just like moral values will be a thing of the past, who needs then?ViewDate:

Has fatherhood changed in the last 50 years?I don't know where you live, but I've witnessed a general decline over the years in what we used to call morality. Parents are no longer expected to be married, the term bastard has taken on a completely different meaning. Various 'lifestyles' which we had always seen as perversions are now totally acceptable and what's worse is that this acceptance has now been written into law to such a politically correct degree that any criticism of said lifestyles is likely to find you in a cell. I am grateful that I experienced (endured?) the years before the world went mad (evolved? matured?became more tolerant?) when I and anyone who wished could express their dislike of certain practices openly. I feel sorry for the children of the world who have no knowledge of this freedom, having been conditioned by the various campaigning minority groups that collectively control their thought processes. Tolerance and acceptance have evolved into a form of tyranny which is nowadays self fuelled. Fatherhood is I'm sure a word which like many others will no doubt be outlawed as sexist very soon. Gender specific words like this are already being replaced and Fatherhood will not last long. M6 father was a man, my mother was a woman they produced children naturally and brought us up to do the same. My father had a feminine side and my mother was the authority figure. They made joint decisions as I remember and argued often, but we were a family like millions of others. Nowadays kids are privy to so much more than we were and conditioned to accept that many things we thought of as totally unnatural are perfectly ok. God bless them .ViewDate:

Should smoking be brought back into pubs?As an ex publican I believe there was a massive opportunity missed by the lunatics that have run the asylum we live in for years. Their challenge was that it had been established that so called second hand smoking had become politically important and they needed to be seen to be doing something about it. Instead of thinking about the problem and applying some logic they merely snatched at the first headline grabbing solution that came to them and banned smoking in pubs. That along with their campaign to discredit the age old custom of consuming alcohol triggered the destruction of a whole revenue generating industry heralding the demise of the British pub. The opportunity they ignored was to put the onus for clean air on the pub industry itself. They already possessed the technology to test air quality, so all they had to do was set a standard for breathable air and shut down any pub which failed to reach that standard. This would have meant that any pub allowing smokers to indulge in their filthy habit would have to have systems installed that cleaned the air to the preset standard. All they had to do now was send round an inspector every so often with a hand held meter to check the air. This would have resulted in a massive demand in the air conditioning industry and all the associated industries they rely on. Electrostatic filters were the state of the art in those days, but nothing fuels advancement in technology more than a huge demand (other than a war perhaps) such as this would have given rise to. No the lunatics decided to kill off more of our British tradition in favour of a headline grabbing stunt that caused the loss of livelihood for tens of thousands in the hospitality industry, instead of creating prosperity for tens of thousands in the climate control industry. Some pubs in this scenario would of course still closed down because they wouldn't have been able to afford the necessary equipment, they may have chosen the cheaper alternative to ban smoking in their premises and still been forced to close, but at least they might have clung on a while longer than they did. Breweries and other concerned parties would have joined in the struggle to allow pubs to continue functioning by assisting with finance etc, and the air conditioning industry would also have been able to assist by lowering prices and offering finance options. Too late now though the damage is done. Well done lunatics the rest of us in the asylum soberly thank you for our pristine quality public air. The air in pubs, even those filled with chain smokers, wouldn't have needed to be cleaned much to bring it up to the wonderful standards of somewhere healthy like Hyde Park for instance and I know what the air's like there because it's where I had my last asthma attack!ViewDate:
