Should Britain stay in the EU or is now the time to leave?I am proud of our history too and proud to be British (and not just English - though I am that too). I have no illusions that the EU is wonderful - it isn't, but it is the least worst option facing us. We could become the official or unofficial next stae to the US (but I doubt they would want us). True independence for states our size is hard to achieve and most ocuntires belond to trading blocs of one sort or another. The 'ever closer union' idea has been thrown out (and was only ever seriously wanted by small countries like Belgium for understandable historical reasons). We don't have to use the euro. as foir seeinhg national governments disappear - I very much doubt it - being completley cynical - there are too many politicians earning too much money in every national anbd regional parliament to let that happen.ViewDate:

Should Britain stay in the EU or is now the time to leave?leave to find what? Yet still have to workj withthe countiees we have just spurned. foreign media owners telling us what to think. leaving would be a disaster, ecomically, geopolitically, and culturally. The spiteful little Englanders of the Daily Mail variety (whose founder ascribed its success to giving its readers 'something to hate every day') would have won. We can do better than to give in to that kind of narrowness of spirit
