What you can and cannot do during a hosepipe banI am very happy to comply with the hosepipe ban - though I think they are three months too late for any real benefit, But what they have not done is make any effort to plug the leaks we know are using almost as much or more than their household clients. There should be a law against them stopping us from using their services while those leaks are not plugged but while the government dilly-dallys we must do our bit for the world.ViewDate:

Anthems from the Summer of Love: 1967All of those bring back memories. Especially All you Need is Love. And Whiter Shade of Pale was the song that brought my first husband and me together. I always smile when I hear it.ViewDate:

How did the Christmas orange become a festive tradition?Yes, every year. I always put one in my children’s stockings too. Of all the varieties I love the tangerine best, followed by clementines. My dad was a greengrocer for some years of my childhood and the best orange of the year used to be the big Shamouti oranges from Israel which arrived in January. With an orange flavour is everything.ViewDate:

3 ways to ‘tidy-up’ your estate for familyUsed your link to go and have a look at details of what they are offering and what the charges are. But it was just a list, no real information at all, and the only way is to sign up. I prefer to find out exactly what they are offering before signing anything.ViewDate:

Take a look back at 19771977 passed in a bit of a fug since I had had my first baby in November 1976. It seemed to be a round of feeding and changing because he was a greedy little fellow. However, I do remember the day of Elvis’s death the River Brent broke its bank and flooded Greenford. The water didn’t reach our house but many friends were badly affected.ViewDate:

Would you welcome a 'circuit-breaker'?No, only lockdowns in areas where the numbers are rising. Don’t penalise shops, restaurants and schools who are behaving.ViewDate:

Has Theresa May got the right financial balance for pensioners? The term "pensioner" is used to cover a hugely varied population. Pensioners who are in their seventies, eighties and nineties range from those who worked and got works pensions, some of whom got decent final salary pensions, others who saved in defined pension schemes who got annuities of 10% or more, and the vast majority who struggle on the basic pension, or even less. The Baby Boomers range from age 53 to 71, most of whom are still working. Those of us who have already retired, like myself, similarly have a range of incomes. There are some who got the silver-plated final salary pensions, but the ones who saved for their own private pensions found that annuity rates had fallen drastically. When I converted my pension pot into annuities there was a report about pension savings, and it said that the average pension pot was £25000. The AVERAGE, so given that there would be a sizeable number having pots of millions (why do I say this - because of the cap parliament put on tax-free savings into pensions) that means there was a similarly sizeable number with zero. We also know that women in this generation are badly served in the pension changes in recent years. That average pot in 2011 would have given an annuity of around £40 a month. Add that to even the full State pension at the time and I think you will agree that legislating for the future for all those "wealthy pensioners" out there should be more carefully nuanced. And remembering that the "triple lock" applies only to the State Pension - so usually around an extra £1 or £2 a week. My 88 year-old Mum got an extra 50p a week, and she is trying not to spend it all at once...
