Lively communities key to beating Covid-19 isolation

The pandemic has been particularly difficult for over 60s. Many have spent the last year isolating themselves from friends and family, leaving them to feel increasingly isolated and lonely.

For residents at later living specialist Rangeford Villages’ developments, however, it has been an easier time.  Living as part of friendly, supporting communities, they have been able to spend the lockdown surrounded by like-minded individuals with care available should they need it, whilst remaining in their own home in complete safety.

Villages Mickle Hill in North Yorkshire, and Wadswick Green in Wiltshire, offer an array of social activities for residents to develop hobbies, meet new people, socialise with one another and stay mentally stimulated. Onsite teams are also on call 24/7 to provide help, companionship and support whenever needed.

The developments also offer beautiful, landscaped grounds with ample outdoor seating that were carefully adapted so that residents could meet with each other safely, as well as see family and friends.

Wadswick Green’s gardens were a lifeline for many residents during the lockdown

During the Covid-19 lockdowns, the teams worked hard to ensure that no one has felt isolated, regularly checking in with residents and introducing clear guidelines to ensure their wellbeing.

David Robinson, 71, will be moving to Mickle Hill in April. He says: “My wife passed away three years ago, and I wanted to move somewhere that offered more social opportunities. That’s the main thing that drew me to Mickle Hill: it’ll be very good to have people around. A lot of the homes near me are second homes, so it can be harder for it to feel like a community. Mickle Hill on the other hand is a true neighbourhood with many activities to get involved with.”

The activities offered at the villages aim to accommodate every interest and lifestyle, and creating your own hobby groups is encouraged to allow those who share a common interest to meet, discuss tips and experiences, and bond over their passion and hobby.

Residents enjoy exclusive access to a number of communal, onsite amenities, such as hair and beauty salons, gyms, and libraries. Wadswick Green is also home to the onsite restaurant, The Greenhouse, whilst Mickle Hill boasts a popular bistro.

To help residents engage with the broader local life and form part of the wider community, the villages also actively develop links with local groups, clubs and voluntary organisations in Wiltshire and Yorkshire.

In contrast to many later living developments, Rangeford Villages fully supports residents who wish to own a pet. Cats and dogs are welcome at both villages, providing a valuable source of support.

Rangeford Villages is now taking appointments for in-person visits, with virtual tours also available. Mickle Hill’s apartments offer one or two bedrooms, starting from £165,950, with the two bedroom bungalows starting from £295,950.  At Wadswick Green there is a mixture of one, two and three bedroom apartments starting from £219,950. Rangeford Villages’ upcoming development Siddington Park, in Cirencester, will be opening to off-plan reservations on 1st April with apartments available from £299,950.
