Be My Valentine

Be My Valentine

As the envelope hit the hallway floor, she raced down like a train.
her heart was missing several beats, ‘It’s Valentine’s again!’
Would it be from Daniel N, or Malcolm from accounts?
then she stooped to pick it up, and felt the tension mount.

Would it be her lucky day? She’d never had a card.
The fourteenth would just come and go, each time she found it hard.
She wished it came from him next door, as he was a gorgeous brute.
A Valentine card that came from him would make her cocker-a- hoop!

Nervousness washed over her, and her mouth felt arid dry,
the prospect of a stunning card, began to make her sigh.
Her knees felt weak, her body shook, that moment in great fear,
she gently caressed the Valentine, and drew the cover near.

Her palms were feeling sweaty now, as she opened up her mail.
She closed her eyes and wished three times, before the big unveil.
‘Oh yes, Oh yes, Oh yes’ she wailed, then dance around the hall.
Her card was covered in red hearts, and words that did enthral.

Now she had that far off look, that anxiety dispersed,
she strokes the card with loving care, reading the enclosed verse.
Are you wondering who sent the card? Was it he next door?
I’m not allowed to say his name, that’s what Valentines for!!!
