Home Grown

Home Grown

If you want your veg fresh, then there’s only one way
You must grow your own, and then pick it each day.
You don’t need much space, but you do need some time
But it’s worth all the effort, as the taste is sublime.

Pod peas are so sweet, and they are fun to prepare
Spuds straight from the soil, there is nothing to compare.
Runner beans that climb canes, with red flowers on top
They taste so much nicer, than those bought in the shop.

Cabbage, parsnips and carrots, and red onions galore
Just there for the picking, right outside the back door.
From the earth to the plate, as quick as a flash
And apart from great taste, it will save you some cash.

I love to write the odd poem when inspired by some event or happening in my own life or that of my family and friends. I usually just write poems for my own pleasure, but I have enjoyed sharing a few of my efforts on Silversurfers and have received some wonderful comments from the community. I enjoy watching Rugby Union. I call myself a 'Hobby Colourist' and enjoy the work of the inky black and white artist Johanna Basford, and I also dabble in photography, in a very amature pastime kind of way.
